Description
I was really sad when I learned that Peter Falk died yesterday, aged 83. I grew up with his portrayal of Lieutenant Columbo (who reminds me always a bit of my late father), so I feel as if I had lost a family member.(In his book "Just one more thing", Peter Falk says about his most famous character:
"There have been many descriptions of Columbo. My favorite is: Columbo is an ass-backward Sherlock Holmes.")
Here's a wonderful, little snippet with Columbo and his Dog (a possibly lethal weapon...?): [link]
Good-bye, dear Lieutenant! You're the best!

I love that "Just one more thing". It cracks me up whenever I watch my Columbo-DVDs.
One of the great detectives; a wonderful character; portrayed by a masterful actor.

Thanks to you for this wonderful drawing (and Dog is adorable, as the real one).
I completed my run through the entire series last night.

Thanks again.
When I had the flu recently, I watched 4 or 5 episodes of Columbo and felt better in an instant.

Yes, he is missed - and - he was quite a painter, as well, you know?
I expect that there have been exhobitions of his work in LA, but
that is a _long_ drive for me, and those exhibitions, or examples,
are rare...I only have seen them in his autobiograpy.

Yes, I know! I've read his autobiography as well and was surprised how good he was at drawing. I would love to see the original works... but alas, it's rather unlikely to have an exhibit of his art here in Europe.

Thank you very much!
Dog was such a terrific supporting character, and so was the Lieutenant's car. And not to forget his wife, but we never got to actually see her.
Thanks also for faving my drawing!

Oh yeah, I knew that! I read his book "Just one more thing" in which several of his (very good) drawings are displayed - he was a truly multi-talented fellow. Thanks for the link! I'm going to pay his website a visit.

Oh, such sad news!
I didn't know this has happened before I noticed your deviation and couldn't quite accept the news at first!
I saw your drawing in my inbox and started smiling, but then noticed the title and my jaw just dropped. "No, it can't be true!" I thought.
Then I read the BBC News article and it made me really woeful.
Actually I hadn't been aware of his diseases either and I was also sad about that matter.
Though I'm really saddened by his death, it comforts me to think he's at peace now and not suffering anymore.
I read that he's said about death "It's just the gateway." I like to think so, too. :}
Peter Falk's character Lieutenant Columbo holds a lot of significance in my life, too.
Those wonderfully entertaining TV series kept me from sorrow after my family broke down.
When my stepmother and my father divorced about six years ago I also lost my relationship with my brother and sister.
I remember I didn't have any friends and everything seemed meaningless.
Then my dad bought the first season of Columbo as a DVD release and we started watching those episodes, bought more DVD releases and got them all; also the Mystery Movies Collections.
They really helped me to get back to normal life.
I love those episodes.
Whenever I felt bad I could totally forget my worries by watching them and they made me feel happy.
That adorable 70's Los Angeles with the lifestyle of the rich and famous had a big influence in me.
The cunning murderers thought they had executed a perfect murder in those luxury mansions of theirs, but then this dogged investigator, wearing his shabby raincoat appeared from somewhere to outsmart them.
Though the idea in those episodes is always the same I never get tired to watch them.
Lieutenant Columbo will always be one of my heroes. He's kind, sympathetic, righteous, special and cute.
I'm so glad you made this drawing in his memory. Thank you so much!
The picture is so adorable and the likeness and everything is spot on. You succeeded beautifully.
The style in this drawing is just so delicate and soft. If I could, I'd fave this hundreds of times.
I'd like to frame this piece on my wall to express my admiration for him and you as an artist, too! ♥
And thank you Peter for the immense joy you gave me and the whole world! You'll be greatly missed!

Oh, I'm sorry that I was the messenger of this sad news.
Thank you so much for telling your story with the Lieutenant, dear Ceidy. Yes, it's true and stunning that Columbo obviously had the gift to comfort and cheer up people's lives enormously. Come to think of it I literally know nobody who did NOT love him. That's truly remarkable. The Lieutenant was proof that it is not looks/money/position that make you a genuine kind human being - bless him, he had a heart of gold and he liked even the worst of his suspects.
We are still at it to purchase all seasons on DVD; we're up to season 5 now. There are certain episodes I watched 10 or 15 times (not surprising, given the almost permanent reruns of "Columbo" on TV here), but they never cease to delight me. I'm looking forward to watching the series in the future, gratefully paying Peter tribute for all the joy he brought to us.
And thank you very very much for your kind comments on the drawing! I'm very glad that you like it.
