Hmm...The symbols are actually missplaced here. This is a common misunderstanding the concept of Yin and Yang being devided into the concept of good and evil. In fact, Yin (the white half) represents passion, drive and desire neither positive or negative traits in themselves, while Yan (the black half) represents calmness, steadfast, and a contemplative state, again not wholely positive of negative traits in themselves.
Passion or desire can lead to great works of art and success or it can lead to the fall of civilizations and lust. A steadfast or calm attitude can prevent one from falling into the darkness tha plauges the hearts of man and compassionate action or it can lead to stubborness and apathy. It is the attempt to find the balance, the harmony between these two diffrent, yet undeniably linked states of being that is the Yin Yang's meaning. Of course there are numerous diffrent interpretations of the philosophy so what it means to me may not be the same for the next man or woman.
Err..so yeah, the Decepticon philosophy falls more into line with giving into passion and desire totally leading to violence and destruction while the Autobot philosophy dwells more in finding harmony and peace. Ideally that is. Each man, or in this case Sentient Machine, has a diffrent personality and thought pattern that shapes the probable action they will take be it logical or not and if it falls into line with there factions adopted mantra such as Slag and Blades (hyperviolant sociopaths that only work for the Autobots because they don't like the Decepticon's more). It just so happens that one side attracts more psychopaths and murders than the other.

First off, that's one of the best comments anyone's left here, thanks!
Second, I did consider the placement of the symbols at length (and I think its awesome that you brought it up).
I ended up siding with what you see here as a sort of nod to the point you brought up in the third part of your comment, and the fact that most people tend to cross back and forth across those lines, further underlining the grey area we've carved out for life in our society-- while paying worship to black-and-white rules and points of view.
The straight-forward good vs. evil theme of most Transformers fiction being a great example of this (with the notable exceptions of the characters you point out).
Nobody's either, yet everybody's both, dig? This is still a balance to me, and a kind of poignant one.
