1. A friend of mine has textures of a model not working for him, as in it comes out with the purple and black checkerboard pattern. Anything you know that could help?
2. Is there a tutorial you could give me (link or something) on how to import models from other games into sfm?

2)As far i seen theres no really a tutorial to import characters, you may want to poke around Youtube.
