Description
Artemis: "Shadow is the means by which bodies display their form. The forms of bodies could not be understood in detail but for shadow."Solaris: Where'd you hear that? A Fortune Cookie?"
Next up in the Tudor Ponies series: Prince Artemis!
For Artemis, I used two outfits Edward VI wore to convert. I realised his wardrobe was still extremely similar to Henry VIII's, so I did some digging and decided to combing clothes Ed wore as a baby for the color and sleeves, then use the coat and hat he wore as king to create something that still maintains the feel of the Tudor era.
Since I imagine Luna/Artemis as painting the sky each night, I tried to make Artemis look like a scholar/researcher similar to DaVinci (even though he's from the wrong century) with toned down colors and less ornamentation than the other ponies in the series. Wheras Solaris would party and flirt, Artemis would be more interested in research and carefully crafting his night sky, and may have even been a student under Starswirl the Bearded (wait, this is Rule 63. Has anyone made a Rule 63 Starswirl yet?)
Also more background practice!
Fun Fact: The title was inspired by several quotes by DaVinci in which he stated that while light leaves an impression, shadow is what defined a surface (artistically speaking). And as you probably guessed, the quote Artemis uses at the beginning of this description was by him too, one of my favorites. I really need to read more stuff by DaVinci. He was a genius after all.

I might, I've just lost my love of digital painting lately. I prefer sketching in pen and marker. :/

I love your series of historical ponies! You should totally draw Big Mac as Isaac Newton getting hit by an apple and coming up with the maths behind Gravity! you could call it "Fancy mathematics"

Actually, I was going to draw him as Shakespere, because in an interview Peter New dud the classic "to be or not to be?" question in Big Mac's voice.

Artemis is that not a girls name?
that aside yep DaVinci was indeed perhapes one of the best secintist we ever had (and was cracking at over stuff too) and yet ironicly only finished a small part of hes projects (some plans mesytrusly destroyed by hes broother)
good call on makeing him look younger then Solaris all in all a exelnt serries.

I have to say that the motive beyond this image is truly well crafted. Although, that implies to many of your other arts as well. I enjoy your type of inspiration and I find that astonishing. Love your works.

You know, I usually don't much hearken to gender swaps, but this is amazing! I love this style of drawing ponies, and I'm sorry this message is taking so long to type, but I drooled all over my keyboard I think I might have to get a new one.
