Description
Well, as I was at Ulm last week, after I had chosen to help my Mum on her way to her grandchildren I found time to combine satisfy three of my main passions in photography, Railway photography, architecture photography and wildlife photography.
For even in the heart of the city you will find wild animals, in this case doves. There was a whole colony on this part of the old city walls near the station.
As my 35-70 F2.8 had not been delivered yet I was using an old Voitländer (Cosina) 28-210mm F4.5-6.3 as my main walkaround lens on my D700. So this was shot on it.
The image has a decided crop, both to deal with the rather short focal length and to slightly improve composition and a little development work in Lightroom, including AI noise removal*, as I had to raise exposure a bit, not a perfect shot, but it was to good a moment to pass up.
Aside from the 28-210, I had the Nifty fifty and the Nikkor AFS 70-300 F4.5-5.6 with me. I dearly missed my 200-500mm F5.6 and/or the D300S at that time. As either would've given me more reach in this situation. The D300S would've been more practical, as I the 200-500 is quite a pain to lug around and my new backpack for spotting and wildlife where it really fits hadn't arrived yet. However the D700 did sterling work nonetheless, I'm always impressed with the colours and the sheer dynamic range this camera has.
It pushes me to do my best.
*The AI noise removal has truly impressed me, it is one of those few times, where the hype is indeed real.
