Description
Lucca restores a defunct Robo while the CT gang looks on behind her. The composition of the scene was inspired by a Norman Rockwell painting. Done in colored pencil mostly with some pen outlines.(Fanfest submission on the EB forums for the "Chrono Trigger" theme)

Thanks a lot, it's good to hear when someone gets the idea of where I'm coming from with the Rockwellian drawings. Well said too; I would most definitely say I am trying to add a touch of nobility and elegance to video game fanart, since everyone's always so used to seeing anime/cartoonish styles, especially with the RPG genre.

How does this not have more views?
I've had this deviation open for weeks on my browser (even restoring it when I shut it down and whatever) and even after looking at it so frequently, I'm still completely fascinated by it. Your colouring with those pencils is nothing short of amazing. I definitely feel the Rockwell vibe too. I also like how your interpretation of each character is accurate to their original designs, yet done up in a unique and rarely seen style for the series.
I love how much curiosity, suspense and tension can be felt from such a simple little scene. Every element of this piece, from the character positions to the traditional drawing methods to colours totally captures a great memory in the game and floods me with nostalgia. Well, the inclusion of Frog kind of changes it up a bit, but with art as awesome as this, I doubt very many people would care about canon.

Mistergrinn, I don't know why it doesn't have more views! But thanks so much for the comments. Knowing the Rockwell theme got through to somebody is great...it seems like you TOTALLY get what I was going for, with trying to use the original mural to convey the "emotion" of the CT scene. It's kind of funny, I have always been one of those drawers who fears the color and does only black and white pieces. But just for the heck of it this year I bought some colored pencils and started venturing into it. And it's been a blast, especially with drawing out old video game memories and reliving them on paper.
I guess it also helps that I have absolutely no idea how to use photoshop. lol. I was debating on what to do next...but your feedback inspired me that now I am leaning on making another CT pic

A lot of flashy game art you see out there is fun (stuff blowing up, powering up, things fighting, crowded paperspaces, etc.) but after a while it begins to have that "fast-food" effect...to where I feel refreshed to just go back to the roots of my fandom and express the simple moments in a story. Kind of like binging on mcdonalds and taco bell for a month then coming home and realizing how comforting it is to just eat a nice homecooked meal

@carbonatedwater: Thank you for the comments, I hope your head feels better. I think you mean Akira Toriyama; the character art in the CT manual is definitely near that style. It's an exciting format, but drawing anime/manga all day would probably drive me crazy...I like to add just a touch of realism to make it more interesting.

I LOVE your style here, especially with Lucca. I love seeing the CT characters rendered outside the.. um.. whatever the original DBZ-artist's name is (I just hit my head insanely hard, so please excuse my inability to think right now). Beautiful work!
