I thought he was perfect as Holmes, but maybe that's because he was (probably) the first actor I saw in the role.

it's the hair (and my limitations) - Rathbone had a slightly longer & thinner face

I don't recognise this actor, but given the date, that would be why.
The costume is very Sherlock, for the time period.

When I did this card set, I bought a book of reprints of all the original Sherlock Holmes stories complete with their illustrations, and this guy is/was the spitting image of the Holmes depicted there. The moviemakers knew what they were doing
