Description I've been meaning to do this for forever! and i finally did.

with my brand new Wacom Bamboo tablet!!!!!!! AAHHHAHAHAHHA!!!!!! I AM SO EXCITED! CAN YOU TELL?!?!?!!?

ahem. anyway, as you might have gathered, I received a new tablet for Christmas since my old one died. and it was an upgrade.

so of course, I've spent a lot of today sketching around of it kind of getting the feel of it. and i thought it would be fun to sketch out the characters in my Claymore fic.

except for Clare, that is. Sorry Clare I forgot you. but you're on the cover, so that's okay!

i put the names up there, but just to reiterate, from left to right at the top: Galatea, Flora, Stella, Kahlin

in the middle kind of: Cameron, Jen

bottom row: Teresa, Ilena,Tera, Allie

so now you have faces to put with the names of my OCs. I had fun drawing them. I am especially pleased with Kahlin, Allie, and Jen.

oh, i also thought that I should specify how to pronounce Kahin's name. it's KAY-lin.

So this is how everyone looks hmm.... Well I actually never had an image of each character, aside from the original characters of Claymore of course, but this helps alot in visualizing the story. I love how your art is unique and in its own sorta league. I hope I get to see more!

lols!

thank you! their hair was the funnest part. lols, well Yagi has thought up a lot more than the six I did, so i still have to respect that.

True...some of his concepts were pretty smexay themselves *coughJeanGalateaNoelTeresaIreneHysteriacough* But Stella and Jen's especially are pretty MADE OF WIN. Jen's looks a little like it was inspired by Helga, too

lols, actually, when I was drawing Jen, I was thinking of Kira Nerys from Star Trek DS9 circa season 3 or 4.

I am a horrible and deprived person for still never having seen DS9. It's pretty high up on my Shows-To-Devour list, though!

OW ! have i told you how much i love Stella's hair style reminds me of Raftela only with braids ....

and i've always found Flora's hair to be the hardest . it's just so difficult to draw :S but im SOOOOO happy that you finally did this XD i've been waiting for this for a long time . meh . and congratz on the wacom tablet . ^^ Cintiq would have made things easier but it's SOO damn expensive !

i think you might have, but i like hearing it again!

Flora's hair actually didn't give me that much trouble, but I can see how it would be tough.

hehe, yeah, this is kind of especially for you because i know you've been wanting me to do this for a while!

yes, finally. i really did mean to do this a long time ago and I even have sketches of most of them somewhere. but now i have a new tablet of awesomeness so no more excuses!

It also really helps when I am reading your fic to have some faces to put on the OCs, too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

whutnot In reply to Greatkingrat88 [2011-12-26 21:00:40 +0000 UTC]

yeah, i figured as much. i did want everyone to have a chance to actually see what they looked like. it also gave me a chance to really pin down their faces. some of them, i had a clear picture of, but some were not as easy to get.

Nice job on making new hairdos. Yagi really has used up a lot of them already.

thank you! lols, yes, I had a hard time thinking up enough. it was difficult making them distinct enough from past hair styles.

Greatkingrat88 In reply to whutnot [2011-12-26 22:58:00 +0000 UTC]

I wonder what all of the characters would look like minus the hair- not sure if they'd look that distinct.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

whutnot In reply to Greatkingrat88 [2011-12-27 15:08:24 +0000 UTC]

that's true. there's not much difference in their faces. really, only Irene has a really distinct face.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Greatkingrat88 In reply to whutnot [2011-12-27 15:37:48 +0000 UTC]

Yagi's not that great at distinction, although he does everything else rteally well.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

whutnot In reply to Greatkingrat88 [2011-12-27 23:18:45 +0000 UTC]

true. of course, i think that's a problem with a lot of animes, not just his.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Greatkingrat88 In reply to whutnot [2011-12-28 11:07:04 +0000 UTC]

It really depends on the artist. Rumiko Takahashi, mangaka to Inuyasha, uses very little facial distinction in terms of anatomy, and the same could be said for Akira Toriyama- but both Tite Kubo and Masashi Kishimito- Bleach and Naruto respectively- can, for their lack of decent writing, draw some pretty distinct faces. Then if we move up into seinen, we have artists like Rei Hiroe (Black Lagoon) and Kentaro Miura (Berserk) who draw genuinely realistic art- these two can actually manage to let you recognize a face without hair, you know?
And then there are brilliant artists like Naoki Urasawa (Monster, 20th Century Boys, Billy Bat), who has the single most realistic drawing style I have seen in manga.

It all depends.

whutnot In reply to Greatkingrat88 [2011-12-28 16:25:31 +0000 UTC]

that's all very true. i've been watching Fullmetal Alchemist lately, and the faces are very distinct.

i also noticed in Claymore that sometimes Yagi has trouble making the designs consistent. like, one character will look different in two panels, and not just because it is from a different angle.

FMA is particular in that it often sports detailed drawings, while often venturing into typical shonen art standards. It makes for a very special kind of style.

It happens, yes. I always was impressed with the level of detail he makes, and how good his scenery tends to be, though.

whutnot In reply to Greatkingrat88 [2011-12-28 23:56:14 +0000 UTC]

Yep. I don't love all the animation of FMA but I do like a lot of it.

That's very true

I am on nine volumes now- so far, it seems the mangaka is going for real quality.

It's another reason I usually say claymore is a Shonen dressed in Seinen's robes.

The first anime is really kind of so-and-so; the manga that much better.

whutnot In reply to Greatkingrat88 [2011-12-30 20:02:11 +0000 UTC]

yeah. the first anime didn't really interest me all that much (except for Izumi). i enjoyed Brotherhood a lot more.

The manga/brotherhood is longer, and has a better plot and better characterization, so yeah.
