i wish I had the theatric version somehow, because on every other version, she is clutching her side, yet theres no blood.  So i watched it as was like WTF why is she in pain from no visible injury.  But then I was told they had blood in theaters.

IKR? It's like kids are afraid they might vomit or burst into tears when seeing something like that!

Glad you agree! Seeing blood shouldn't be nauseating! Speaking of which, it strangely reminds me of this Arthur episode: youtu.be/2JuAvzMGwSw

Oww! The place she is holding is very close to a...erm...tender area. Poor captain.

Nice job! The expression and shading and everything about this is awesome!

I'm also curious as to what actually happened with the laser cannon. My best guess is that it caused severe burning...but then her coat would be burnt through...and that also doesn't explain how her arm broke.

T'was presumed to be rib damage.

I imagine a large piece of heated shrapnel made its way into her side but was dislodged when the emergency boat crashed. As for her arm, I could imagine that the wood would have hit its dull side with force to her shoulder blade, or upwards from the armpit (and that bloody hurts!)
They animated a scene where her coat /was/ burned and ripped in the area of the wound, and she removed her hand to reveal blood, but it was cut out. It is Disney, unfortunately, and Disney breeds a generation of pansies that can't take a little elaboration on wounds. T_T

Ooh, Disney. -_- Why even let characters get wounded if they can't show -how- they are wounded? I don't see how a little blood is bad for an animated movie anyway...it's not like it is gore, and I'm sure most kids who would be watching would be old enough to have bled before. o_O

Yeah! You could have even just shown the burnt coat part, but noo, it's simply 'too violent D:' -_- Details, details.

This may seem strange, but I recently noticed another example of toning down content for home media releases of Disney films, which in this case happens to be that of Pixar's Incredibles 2. Turns out the strobe effects that Screenslaver used as his scheme was removed in the scenes when he hypnotizes the characters, which explains the warning signs posted outside the theaters that were meant to advise those that may have been prone to photosensitive epilepsy.

Well, they couldn't exactly show us, and the kids wouldn't understand it if they told us.

Damn kids. How dare they and to a more ironic extent we!

I agree. I guess Disney films aren't complete without damsels suffering from shocking breakdowns, like when Snow White fainted after taking a bite out of the apple, or when Aurora fell into a deep sleep after pricking her finger on a spindle.

Civilized-Monster In reply to SaraHouck [2012-08-02 01:48:51 +0000 UTC]

Well yes, Disney does portray the females as pansies, however Snow White and Sleeping Beauty were tales that existed much, much longer ago than the animated films. The fainting and the deep sleep are details that made up the fairy-tales and simply could not be changed, as they were the entire subject for the story, as well as the male leads.
I'm glad the Captain pulled her way out of the situation, however. They surprisingly maintained the strength her character possessed [appropriately, o'course], even when wounded.

TheCheapskate93 [2008-12-21 23:13:02 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... and what did really happen to her? Shards in the side from the broken skiff (blood not sipping through at once, maybe has a thick coat? ), broken ribs too or just broken ribs if she got rammed by the handle or something else, laser ball hitting her (but that's unlikely since her coat would've been ripped then). Darn no-blood-in-Disney-films-rule. We may never know what really happened to her.
Awesome work, nice capture of her raw emotions

she healed very quickly, too.

she walking around by the end of the movie.

I used to bawl like crazy at that scene. I'm quite surprised that she healed quickly too. She must as lucky like I am when I'm smart enough to be drinking milk pretty often in order to build strong bones.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

whutnot In reply to Swain-slave [2008-02-15 22:54:19 +0000 UTC]

sure! when i want to make faces really acurate, i draw a grid first on a reference picture, and then very lightly on on another sheet of paper, but you have to make sure that the boxes are to scale. then you draw what you see in each individual box. I try to think of them as shapes and not part of a picture. you can smooth the lines together later. just don't get discuraged and keep trying. the more you practice and study the character, the better you'll get. i really hate my early stuff of amelia. it took me three years to get her down right.

I try to, I have my total history uploaded on my page. I'll give that a try and post the results of it! (I've never used this method for a face, I did it for a painting once)
