I think yes! It's the first life stage of a Cybertronian, protoforms are the empty frames before they get a spark and life, like lifeless mannequins with generic features. I personally prefer the idea of sparklings, like little robots with simpler frame and no weapons hatching from the eggs. I wanna cuddle little Cybertronians!!! XD

From the things I've read the protoform stays with them and they get armor over them protect it. So otherwise she's just a striped being until I get to the color point.
but I do agree with the sparkling idea, though in someways the protoform could be the sparkling's body being made while the other carries the spark of the sparkling. From there my personal beliefs is from the point the spark is added to the protoform the sparkling is put in a birth pod until it has grown big enough not to be stepped on by others.
