Description
A soldier in tattered clothes lies bleeding in the mudA bullet wound starkly marking his right leg.
In his arms, a friend just lost is growing cold
And all around are victims as the war unfolds.
He struggles to his feet and surveys the scene around
A few metres away a fire is burning, burning lifeless flesh.
The skies above break in sorrow and release and torrent of rain.
But these can't match the tears of one soldier in pain.
Stumbling along the way, he moves slowly to a mound
Erecting a flag that sags low to ground.
And even though his side has finally won this war
There's no one there to witness it at all.
And even though a battle is won
Life couldn't be more grim
Cause there's no victory in this world
That could replace a friend.

the end is slightly ungainly, but dont abandon this poem, it says an awful lot of things which these days SHOULD be said and inside its a truly great poem, just needs a few tweaks.. please do try to work on it.. cause i love it to bits, even as it is
