Description This isn't exactly a traditional sort of thing I do; getting art from other sources and putting them together. But the modern-looking Hawkman and Hawkgirl on the right are my own drawings. So yeah, I can only claim ownership of a small part of this picture.

Here Hawkman and Hawkgirl remember the old Silver Age where Hawkman comics were at the peak of their run. Before CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS. Before HAWKWORLD. Before ZERO HOUR. Before THE NEW 52. Back then Hawkman was a fun series to read. I would know; I have the first volume by Gardner Fox (the original creator) and Joe Kubert (the best Hawkman artist). Actually, I can't really remember the Silver Age because I wasn't born yet lol.

But anyway, I believe the old pictures are all directly lifted from the Silver Age prints, except the middle one where Hawkman says he's sorry. That one was edited on a site but the art looks Silver Age. Whatever the case, I like the one where Hawkman is spraying Hawkgirl with a water hose hahaha. I need to get the other Silver Age volumes. The writing is pretty fun and enjoyable and so NOT SAVAGE like The New 52.

Even though I'm young, I remember when life was simple. Because now I can feel so much tension of the information age. But at least there will always be comics for us to read. Good ones at that.

Enjoy my (partial work) and the lifted prints for laughs. Click to zoom in.

Personally, I think they should break up. This whole "reincarnated lovers always doomed to die" thing has got to get old.

And before putting Hawkgirl with that... Green Lantern character... I don't know what people see in that...

AvikaW , you pretty much described the problem with just about every comic book couple these days from DC, Marvel, IDW and so on. Too many writers (hacks) think they always need to add drama and tension to a relationship. A healthy relationship is just too boring for them and instead they comic up with something like a love triangle as if it was written for pre-teens or a major DC female character getting raped... and this type of stuff is usually written by people who have no experience or first hand knowledge with such a thing.

There are very few comic book pairings that have stayed together for years without the a "shock and all" or an "oh my god moment"... it's pretty sad.

What story is the top-right gold/silver age comic panel (where Hawkman sprays Hawkgirl with a hose) from? It looks strangely familiar.

The Silver Age should be renamed the "Fun Age". I haven't read any Golden Age stories, though.

Though there was (at least) one story from the Silver Age that irritates me. Well, not the whole story. Just the part where Carter (Katar) has a robot version of him reveal to the world that he's an alien. It was so bad, DC refuses to acknowledge that it even exists. It's the equivalent of the Zelda CD-i games.

The Silver Age was a simpler time. They didn't have to worry about making several different versions of Hawkman into one or two canon versions. It wasn't all "dark and angst". The closest thing to a convoluted "love dodecahedron" was a character having the hots for a character that's already taken (with Hawkman's ass, who could blame those ladies?). Unlike a certain bronze/dark age story, the writer's didn't use rape as a cheap means of adding tension and drama.

Seriously. DC had a major female character raped just so they could focus on the shocked and horrified expressions on her male colleagues' faces. They didn't even put any focus on how such an event affected her, the victim. I don't remember the title of the story, but it was featured on an episode of "Atop the 4th Wall".

The silver age is fun to read even if the logic is a bit loopy, although I do like how that Post-Crisis retconned the Golden Age and Silver age as having existed on Earth one but changed it to where the league was active as independents but didn't really get popular until whenever the silver age started. I think New Frontier best links the ages together. Now if they could find a way to adapt the crisis series into movies.

I agree with them, stuff years ago was way easier.

Hawkman back when he was simple and not legendary for having a ridiculously convoluted backstory.

Yeah, although he should be also be legendary for something. Otherwise he wouldn't be a superhero.

The animated cartoon one? I think it was from "Challenge of the Superfriends", the old Justice League Hannah-Barbera cartoon.

Yeah, the good old days are some of the best parts of life. If only it were possible to pass on that "goodness" to future...
