you could try cell-shading [link] or hatching [link] or just gradient shading.

use the ink brush for his hair!!!! You can go from thick to thin and you wont get any of those crappy jerky lines!!! seriously, give it a try. You'll fall in love XD
and this looks good, except you should really try to find some sort of shading method you like. it really makes art so much more... dynamic.
