I started this piece with a story. A place where most of my drawings begin. I like to write out ideas and create many back stories for the artwork I create. In this woman I imagine standing alone. In quiet repose mourning silently over loss. What is the loss? No one knows but it is read deeply on her face. Deciding upon this idea I strived for minimalism. A visual representation of one in it’s rawest moments. Usually revealed during tragedy. I kept a simple palette with her skin being the only pops of color. The time period is ambiguous and a toss away thought. I wanted the focus to be on her and her alone. The emotion in this piece is what the viewer sees. Some will see sadness. Others hope, but in the end the world is made of little perceptions. Individual stories that are our own.
