Description Commissioned painting for a friends D&D campaign, a sort of custom race of reincarnated beings. They have metal skeletons, armor, and various mechanical components; essentially skeleton cyborgs. The glass faces covering their skulls resemble who they once were in life.
They are divided into three sentience castes, where those who retain their past life memories, personality, and intelligence are the strongest and typically have power over the other members of the race. This is mostly due to the presence of ambition.

The lowest and most numerous caste are essentially animalistic. They retain virtually nothing from their past selves other than the shape of their face. They can act like a hive mind formed around a higher caste members. With no personal preferences or ambition, they often let their bodies decay overtime, leading to a disorganized form. They can be easily commanded by the higher castes

The middle class may retain some of their personality and memories, but are defined by the retention of skill and intelligence. They tend to make excellent warriors because of this. They tend to display some general sense of pride, and will constantly repair or even upgrade themselves. members in this caste can be reborn this way, but many evolve from the lower class following a return of some part of their intelligence and ambition. They often work together in small groups and can even partially grant the lower class access to parts their former mind. They are not easily commanded, but respect the highest class.

The highest class is defined by the retention of most or all of their personality and memories in life. Rather than having a general sense of pride and aimless ambition to improve, they have very specific goals which vary based on personality. This is the only caste which displays gender dimorphism, as members will modify their bodies to more closely resemble their identities in life, This modification is purely a matter of pride and preference. Members of this caste are always created, as they cannot evolve from the lower classes. They are exceptionally rare and usually independent. They will not command other Nebattin unless it is within their personality to do so. Memebers of this caste who could practice magic in life retain their ability to do so. These individuals are extremely powerful since their undying bodies permit the learning of magic beyond the lifespan of a mortal race

A good 3 months of not having a plan generally disliking the painting until the end when it came together. Put alot of effort into rendering metal, as well as balancing high detail areas with empty space, sharp edges in highlights vs soft/implied edges in shadow. basically an extensive experiment with the different kinds of contrast
