Description
Original Title: Regina BombinaThis ink drawing from 2017 was first show-cased at Circle1 gallery in Berlin last year, as part of the "Bad Intentions" exhibition, together with artists such as Osama Zatar, Keren Cytter and Marav Kamel. It was curated by writer and musician Avi Pitchon.
The drawing is part of my work with animal and plant totems/spirits. The concept of a bee goddess or divinities portrayed as bees, was well known in antiquity, e.g. in Western Asia, Egypt and Crete. A famous example is the golden bee pendant in Malia, which is on display at the archaeology museum in Iraklio. The mythology and folklore of bees are discussed in depth in Hilda Ransom's book "The sacred Bee".

Well done, it looks ancient. It could be a secret parchment from long ago, found at the hidden buried temple of "The people off the bee"

Thank you very much! I recently started to read up on bee cults and worship and suddenly find so many parallels. When I made the drawing, I had not read much but simply put in anything I could imagine in connection with the bee totem.
