Description Β Winner of Weekly Themed Challenge "The Road Home".

dazaholics.deviantart.com/gall…

DAZ Studio 4.5 Pro render. Postwork with Photoshop CS5.

The Battle of Leuctra took place in 371BC. In the battle the Spartans were defeated by the Thebans & the Spartan King - Cleombrutus was slain. It marked the beginning of the end of the Spartan states role as the dominant military power in the region.

This picture is just an imagining of the Spartan march home after the battle, presented as an ancient faded & cracked mural.
It is not offered as historic fact & no virtual animals were harmed in a way during the making of this picture.
(Apart from a Snake, who was kicked in the head after bad-mouthing one of the Horses at the Coffee truck).

Several late nights went into setting out the scene here. The final image is a composite of 6 seperate renders compiled, treated & beaten up with PsCS5.

Are the spartans in the back all instances?
I found out that the instances not really save memory. This works better in Carrara.

I didn't used instances.
I just used a handful of M4 charecters, moved them about and posed them slightly differantly for seperate renders. I then complied all the renders in Photoshop.

Thank You kindly Simon.
Asp-irin ha! (muted groan from audience).

Sadly the Snake didn't recover from his injuries & we were forced to use his stunt double for the shoot.
Besides no-one really missed him, he was a poisoness little sod & forever throwing hissy fits.

Louder groan from audience... accompanied by barrage of popcorn & a tomato... still in its tin.

That's simply great. I love the way you took the rendered material and transformed it into an old wall painting. Only one thing I would suggest... don't put such big resolution online. Not because it's to big to view, no, because it's easy to steal and allows quality copies.

WiL3D In reply to CyprithTheCat [2013-02-09 11:51:08 +0000 UTC]

Danke Cyprith. I appreciate the compliment.
Thanks for pointing the size issue out. I always render at 6000+ pixels for detail purposes, but I display on dA at 1600 pix. I clean forget to press the re-size button in my hurry to upload this.
