Description

This is a reworking of last night's posting about the cabin types aboard my USS Odyssey. This version eliminates the escape pods, and adds the command crew. I felt the escape pods made the overall piece too bulky, and cutting them streamlined it. I also changed some of the verbage used in the original.

The rest is the same.

The first six cabins are my interpretations of designs by Auctor Lucan and Bobye for "Star Trek Theurgy", found on DA here: www.deviantart.com/auctor-luca…

Auctor Lucan was kind enough to let me adapt the Theurgy designs from their original, wonderfully detailed 3D views to my simplified top-down blueprint views. I cannot stress enough how much I would encourage you to check out the Theurgy pages!

The Chief Medical Officer's cabin is a remodel of two department head cabins to allow for his species-specific needs such as a water-based sleeping area, a feeding pool for live aquatic prey hunting & seating for the octopus-like Rythii. All of the surfaces are covered in slate-like tiles, which is necessary since the temperature ranges from 40 to 45 degrees Celsius (104 to 113 degrees Fahrenheit) with a humidity of 100%, and low lighting, which simulates the briny swamps that the Rythii typically inhabit. The atmosphere is similar to a contemporary steam room, and most humans would find the doctor's quarters highly uncomfortable after a short period of time. He is only able to tolerate the cooler, brighter and drier conditions of the rest of the ship thanks to a combination of a uniform vest that transfers heat to his body, a skin cream that promotes moisture retention, and his species' natural nictitating membranes that act like biological 'sunglasses'. (This species is my own creation, heavily based on the physical appearance of the Thermians from "Galaxy Quest")

The Chief Science Officer's cabin & workspace is a pressure vessel designed to simulate the Jovian environment (temperature, gravity, atmospheric gases & lighting) of his gas giant homeworld. It is three levels high to allow for his natural method of mobility, flight. His species are filter feeders, so the atmosphere also contains their krill-like food source. The topmost level simulates the mat-like structures they use for housing, sleeping & the storage of personal effects. The mid level has spherical holographic displays calibrated to his normal visual range. He can pull up multiple feeds from the bridge science station and several labs at the same time, which allows him to monitor the science department without having to leave his cabin. He can still do so by use of one of two antigrav environmental suits (a primary and a spare) which are stored on the lowest level. There is also a workstation on the lowest level that simulates the bridge science station. There is an airlock that allows for egress into/out of the habitat. There are also six humanoid-sized pressure/environmental suits which allow for humanoid crew to enter the habitat safely for brief periods of time. (This species is my own creation. They look somewhat like sting rays, and their antigrav environmental suits are based on the limbless torso of the 'Ultimate Swampfire' design from "Ben 10")

Here's a link to the details on my two species: www.deviantart.com/wild-endeav…

The three models of family cabins allow for crew who have civilian spouses, offspring, and in a handful of cases, elder family members in their care.

The two models of emergency evacuation cabins allow for the Odyssey to temporarily house and transport 15,000 evacuees.

The remaining two specialty cabins are for the other non-humanoid department heads aboard the Odyssey. The Chief of Operations is a Syrath (a species created by Christopher L. Bennett first seen in his "Star Trek Titan" novels). The Operations chief has a specialized office away from the bridge, outfitted for their unique physiology. The Chief of Security is a Sulamid (a species created by Diane Duane, first seen in her TOS novel "The Wounded Sky"). Because he is a mass of tentacles his seating resembles a small climbing frame, while his bed is a shallow nest-like structure.
