Description Sooo, this is a drawing I've wanted to do for some time now for myself <3 I'm glad I finally did it.

Anywho, for those that don't know. These are Thylacines(or Tasmanian Tigers), a mom and her baby <3 They are an extinct species and have been since 1936 due to over-hunting mostly (shocker, I know). Despite it's look, the Thylacine was actually a carnivorous marsupial, the largest one of our time and could open it's jaws very widely, about 120 degrees so I've read - [link]

Sightings are still reported today of this gorgeous and incredible animal, but none have ever been confirmed. I think it may be over-all wishful thinking, but I certainly would really love to see these guys one day re-emerge. The chances are slim, but we can always hope that there is some lingering population out there, hiding deep in the bush.

I absolutely LOVE Thylacines. I even have a demon character whose animal partner is a Thylacine. (Despite them being extinct, the character and his Thylacine companions have been alive for quite a few centuries.) They were such beautiful creatures, and it's a shame they went extinct the way they did. I watched a documentary about a year ago, and they were trying to bring back the Thylacine by using the DNA of a jarred specimen. I'll have to watch it again, because I don't remember all the details, but from what I can remember, they were having difficulties because the DNA segments were too broken apart due to the specimen sitting in the formaldehyde solution for too long. It would be amazing if they could put the pieces together and bring back this wonderful species, however.

Seriously??? Do you have a ref for this char? That's so awesome <3

I know =[ It's really quite sad, especially when you think that there have been so many other species that we killed out.... Mhm! I watched the same one I believe. I had been following that very project whenever a doc came on or an article came up in the paper. I think you're correct about the issue, I wanted to add that info to my description, but I couldn't remember what went wrong myself. I remember seeing the baby in the jar/container. I had so much hope that it would work out, it was pretty upsetting to me when it didn't =[
I hope one day we will be able to somehow try again with more success... It's a real shame they don't have additional specimens. Not that I know of anyways.

I don't have one yet, but I can definitely make one soon. I've been meaning to, I just haven't gotten around to it. <3

Last I checked, they're still working on piecing everything together. I hope they succeed someday. I'd do anything just to see one of these beauties alive and well again, and I'd especially love to see one up close and in person. I still cling to hope that there are some still alive and running free in Tasmania, but that's hardly more than folklore at this point. ):

Yay! Haha, I know how that is xD Something always gets in the way, or something else comes up :3

Oh really? That's awesome news I know what you mean! I still don't know how well they would thrive now in this day in age, I mean even if they could re-introduce them to the world, they would likely be kept in sanctuaries or zoos or something. Yeah >.< Everytime I hear about a "sighting" I get too excited, then it's a real downer when there is no more news about it.
