Description Contest entry for the MLP-FIM-Union Shady Light competition.

The gist behind this piece is that our beloved Shady Light here, exalted agent of the Lunar Legionnaires (Otherwise know as the Order of Shadows) has been granted a most peculiar task; he must learn the value of teamwork by extension of the fundamentals of friendship! His lone wolf approach to his work has lead him to be quite a troublesome operative out on the fronts of the nightly garrison (the all important fight, keeping Equestrian nights tranquil and out of the hands of monsters).

Luna has appointed Fluttershy to coach Shady in the ways of friendship, as the princess trusts her alone with the secret of her sacred order's members and their ambiguity to the world... it is important that ponies not know what lurks in the night, more so that the order prevent them from having to find out!

Hope you enjoy it, sorry I haven't gotten around to posting for a while. I'm looking to be doing much more frequent uploads and hopefully I can include a WIP piece to help explain the process behind each work from now onward.

As always, your feedback in the comments below is always welcome and encouraged!

Hah, thank you! I'm glad to hear this, and I totally winged it on the story. You have an interesting character in Shady here, it was a pleasure to draw him!

I like her expression a lot, the fact that there's so much going on in every nook of this image and how detailed it is. You were probably inspired by Tsitra, weren't you?

Googles Tsitra* What a compliment! While I can't say that I was, I can see why you would say that. I'm mostly inspired by the many writers and Musicians of the fandom really, and of course the amazing AssassinMonkey.

AssassinMonkey has a very daring style, it works really well for him. Sizeable source of light justifies the amount of brightness applied here, but your previous pictures also made somewhat blurry impression. I'd say that lower values on shadows/highlights would make such pictures more atmospheric, though I understand that some artists prefer making very bright illustrations. In any case, this is totally amazing, it's not difficult to imagine it as realistic. It's exciting to learn that you plan on making such valuable art more often.

I know exactly what you mean!(about the over the top brightness) I don't really know why I add ambient lighting to the point were it nearly causes ambiguity in my forms, but it seems to be a disturbing trend in my work! I have a few ideas on how I might begin to move away from this problem, thankfully. Thank you for the helpful comment It's much appreciated!

Sure, nice to talk to you. I believe it will appear more refined if you decrese this effect that lowers the contrast of colours (and they seem "matte" or "blurry"), as it will bring up to the front all the detailed work you put in every element. I'm always amazed when I see shapes without outlines that are so smooth and with spotless shading and texture.
