In the world of Soliara, the world in which most of my future designs will be based, there is not any way to convert crude oil into anything more energy dense than fuel oil, suitable for steam engines but not much else.

The impact of this is both wide ranging and blatantly obvious. Without any gasoline or diesel, let alone higher octane forms of oil derived fuels, the internal combustion engine has not and will not be invented. This meaning that any and all modes of transportation either rely upon steam or natural forms of transportation like horse power.

Without any internal combustion engines the developement of airplanes and other forms of heavier than air craft have ground to a halt, and most believe that designing any sort of heavier than air flying machine is impossible. Because of this, however, lighter than air travel has boomed and dirigibles are a common sight, though with the somewhat strange addition of funnels to vent off the steam powered boilers!

So, in my future works expect to see alot of new versions of old favorites, and alot of completely new creations all together. In a world where steam is the undisputed master of transportation, where huge airships do battle with powerful battleships, where driving a car is like taking a ride on a miniature steam engine, and where an enemy's every move can be seen with a puff of smoke and steam, anything is possible!
