Description There's always something that you just cannot have. You reach out and try to grasp on to it, but it is always just that step further - always out of reach.

I think this photo resembles just that. The desire to improve, gain, build, achieve and better yourself...

Always something else to hope for...

is this a manip?

it doesn't look real - like one photo.
the hands look totally alien to the rest of it.

Nope. It isn't a manip. Those hands are completely real

can you explain the photo a bit?

is the leaping guy wearing a tophat on a movie screen
or something?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

willko In reply to iamkatia [2005-08-04 22:25:40 +0000 UTC]

Sure

Okay first of all I live down at the beach and this was shot there. Above the beach is a walkway which is elevated from sea level to stop the streets behind the beach getting flooded. Anyway, at one segment on the walkway the path splits in two, one continues to go straight while the other part sinks down, following the curve of the road. I used 9 people to stick their hands up in the air while ducking their heads so that just their hands will be silhouetted against the sky - I guess you could say those hands symbolise desire.

The guy jumping is a good friend of mine who already had a suit and cane, I just had to get the tophat for him to wear. He was standing on the other side of the walkway - the one elevated - and did many jumps and poses up there. I took 77 photos of the whole thing and I think this one turned out the best. Everything set up was intentional, even the timing. It was shot at sunset just so I could get more of a silhouette to the whole picture.

Hope that explains it.

that is fucking great!!!!!

i really encourage you to put this explanation in the description.
i love that you went to all this trouble to do this without
any manip but by rallying your friends. and they all
believed in you enough to do it. and you have
everything down to the last detail with the
clothes, hat and time of day.

i fucking love it.

gotta give you a big fat FAVE for that!!

VERY neat. when i first saw it i thought that it had to be a photomanipulation, but reading the detail-- WOW. very interesting concept, and very good job with the compilation of the different elements of shot-- there was obviously a lot of thought put into making it. it has a very surreal feeling, and i think that the message you were trying to make was quite effectively relayed. magnificent job.

WOW! Fantastic capture. This is a truly briliant shot that absolutely crackles --- I am in awe. WIth the slight blur of the silhouette reminding me of Cartier-Bresson this shot absolutely rocks. I perhaps would have cropped some off of Zone-0 on the bottom but otherwise this is fantastic work. I will fave it so that I may easily come back to it and enjoy it! Keep it up.
