We usually perceive tress and plants in general as passive and static, while actually they are not - they are really expansive, they just happen to move in the different time scale. The roots conquer a bit of new living space everyday by slowly overgrowing the soil - we just do not pay attention. This photograph captures it perfectly. Organic, crooked lines in the photo leave us with a sense of uneasiness, as thought we were watching a monster (or a deformed hand) slowly creeping upon us or. This sense is strengthened by the fact that what the photo portrays actually is not obvious at the first sight.
Most of the abstract photos I encounter on dA are photos of architecture and not the details on living being, so I consider the photo original. I won't comment the technique as I'm not
a photographer so I don't know enough to say anything constructive. I feel that altering the colours could have enhanced the sense of general creepiness I get from this photo and it would have more impact upon me this way than black & white, but that's a personal preference.
