Description
Since Kingdom Hearts II, each game (aside from Days and re:Coded) has had a different take on the "Drive Form" mechanic. (Birth by Sleep had the Dimension Link, Dream Drop Distance had Spirit Links, and III had Formchanges/Keyblade Transformations.)
I had the idea where, if we had multiple playable characters in a future Kingdom Hearts game, each character would have a different take on this mechanic. Here are four examples.
Sora's "Keyblade Transformation" Formchanges work pretty much the same as they do in Kingdom Hearts III.
Kairi's "Heart Link" Formchanges are sort of a mix between Drive Forms and D-Links. Depending on the Keyblade, she would adopt a friend's abilities and her color palette would even change to reflect who she was "linked" with. The idea that inspired this was posited by Aeba (Absolutely Everything About) in her review for Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory , where she suggested (starting at 8:43) that Kairi and Sora were "merged" in a sense and fighting Xehanort together, rather than Sora completely overwriting her (I'd recommend checking it out.). For example, if she has Rainfell equipped, she would enter Aqua Form and take on Aqua's abilities (pictured, although the image still shows Destiny's Embrace), and if she had an Agrabah Keyblade, she would take on Aladdin's abilities.
Riku's "Spirit Link" Formchanges work the same way as in Dream Drop Distance (which is very similar to Style Changes in Birth by Sleep), except that the style change reflects the Keyblade that Riku has equipped rather than what Dream Eater is in his party (there, of course, would not be any Dream Eaters).
Xion's "Mimicry" Formchanges depend on the party member rather than which Keyblade she is wielding. She would replicate the movesets and weapons of whoever is in her party (either one or two of them at a time). For example, she could copy Saïx's Claymore and Berserker attacks or Axel's Chakrams and flame-throwing attacks, or both at once.
What do you think? Do you have ideas for what the other main characters would have in terms of unique Formchanges (as a general term for these mechanics)?
