Description
The Pontianak are vampiric ghosts of Indonesian Folklore. They are said to be the spirits of women who perished while pregnant. They are often depicted as slender women with pale skin, long, black hair, red eyes and a white dress smeared with blood, but it is said that they can take any beautiful human form they want to prey on helpless men. It is said a Pontianak arises every full moon, announcing its presence with a bloodcurdling cry. The Pontianak can sometimes be recognized by a floral fragrace, often followed by a terrible stench. It is said that if a nearby dog is howling, the ghost is near. But if the dog is whining, the ghost is far away.
