Description For now, her name is Wind Storm. May or may not be changed.

::EDIT:: Updated colors so that she's now her entirely own character even by color (now Wind Blade and Wind Storm are completely different).

Name: Wind Storm
Species: Mythic Wolves (I need a better name ._.)
Class: Legendary (both wings and magic)
Rank: Grand Alpha of the Four Great Packs
Pack: Formerly Pack of the Rising Sun before taking on role as Grand Alpha
Bio: A bit large for the average wolf, Wind Storm is a wise wolf, with a kind heart. Her loyalty and dedication as Guardian of the Four Packs is strong. However, she is also a Warrior. Being at home under the slashing fangs and claws, she is a well-trained fighter with a nimble mind for strategies and a natural elite flier, her large wings giving her great endurance.

Despite all this, she is also rather brash. She does what she thinks is best for all Packs, but sometimes she thinks a bit too quickly, and end up putting her subjects in deeper trouble. She's also stubborn about things. There's almost no changing her mind once her decision is made. Wind Storm is also a bit headstrong in the battlefield, relying on her own strength and size to batter and smash her way out through tight spaces.

Her necklace: This is a signature item from where she's from. It's used to shape-shift into various different animals. However, all her main aspects will stay (eg. all her colours will be the same, her build, size, etc.)

Dragon form: sta.sh/0w8t2ib9l65

Character and art belongs to me.

Do you have any additional information about mythic wolves?

I originally had this whole storyline type thing planned, but never really revealed a lot of it.

Basically, there's this species of wolves that live in another dimension, in another world. It's filled with creatures with magical prowess, like the animals we have on Earth, except they're intelligent, and are technicolored. And the way they live is also carried over, except broadened so that they live like a civilised society almost.

There are four classes: Strength (aka Earth-Bound, has much greater strength, speed and endurance than others, larger build) Mythic (possesses ability to use magic like the MLP world's unicorns would, difference is that they only have the ability to levitate, and enhance attacks in battles. Some even have their own special attacks. Identified by a 'star' marking on their forehead, which they later loose as adolescents) Flight (basically winged wolves, very light frame, smallest of the three. Very agile) and Legendary (only one will exist at one time, which is the Grand Alpha, unless they have an apprentice-in-training to become Grand Alpha. However the apprentice will not have full powers until their mentor passes).

If granted the class of Legendary, the wolf gains a significantly elongated lifespan. They will always look young until about 10-20 years prior to their death, then they will show signs of ageing. Unless of course, they die in battle. But it's hard to kill them, for they possess massive amounts of power. When at full power, they can travel through dimensions. This takes a lot of power exertion, and can only be done twice every year, once to get to another dimension and second to travel back to the home dimension. Basically just travels through different universes/worlds.

There are four packs: Pack of the Rising Sun, Pack of the Howling Storm, Pack of the Rushing Stream, and Pack of the Trailing Night. Numbers can range from 30-40 wolves in each pack. Ranks include the alpha, the beta (second-in-command), guards, hunters, mothers, teachers and medics. They all do roles exactly as they sound like. When a pup reaches the age of 6 moons, they are given basic survival skills, basic combat, hunting, and healing by the teachers. At the age of 10 moons, they are given a choice to choose what they want to be (save for medics). Then they will be assigned official mentors accordingly to what they choose. The said mentors will usually be of the same race as their apprentices.

When the pups are two days old, they are put in front of three gems: A shape-shifter (shaped like a diamond, does exactly what it sounds like), a spirit (round, allows user to turn into a 'spirit' form for a given time, users can also go into hyper speed in this form, when they travel super fast that they appear to teleport. Non flight-classed users are given the ability to jump extreme heights and float down safely), and an elemental (shaped like a drop of water, allows users small control over fire, water, earth and wind. They can bend/create fire, bend water and form ice, make plants grow to their desire, and create strong gusts of wind). The gems are placed quite a distance apart from each other. The pups are then released, and the one they are drawn to the most will be the gem they are given when they reach 6 moons, right before they start basic training.

Medic wolves have a special connection to spirits too. The spirits of their ancestors share prophecies and omens through either the medics or the alphas. When a pup receives a vision during their basic training, they are destined to be medics. There are 3-5 medics in each pack.

Holy cow that ended up longer than I intended it to be, whoops. Still building on it.

How big would each pack be?

Stated in the previous comment, 30-40 per pack.

It's quite a large society of wolves

Ah, must've looked that over ^^'

Hopefully last question (sorry, this is really cool) Does each pack have any special significance, markings or differences?

S'all right! I'm glad someone's interested in what I created

I've actually been thinking about that one. They have different brands on them, mostly on their shoulders or cheeks, sometimes their chest or flanks, depending on their pack. I'm working on designing them. Said brands are also engraved on their enchanted gems, as well as on the helmets of their armour (I have the armour designed in my sketchbook currently).

Pack of the Rising Sun wolves live in the more higher-ups, in the hills and plateaus,  and are pretty muscular. Not exactly fast, but they have longer endurance, and Flight class wolves have long wings that allow them to soar with ease. Their legs are very muscular to allow them to climb and jump.

Pack of the Howling Storm are wolves who are lean, agile and fast, they live in more forested areas. Their endurance is not so high, Howling Storm is more of the sprinter oriented wolves, with Flight class having shorter, muscular wings that allow them to manoeuvre around trees easily. They have long and slender legs that allow them to reach wide strides to gain ground quicker.

Pack of the Rushing Stream are the swimmers/fishers, they have sleek appearances. Although all wolves can fish, these wolves are much more advanced in their techniques, and therefore much better at fishing. They are very large and strong, ground oriented wolves, Flight class wolves have stocky wings that are water-repelant, kind of like a duck's or a swan's. They live by the rivers. Some are born with webbed paws.

Pack of the Trailing Night are the stealthy ones, they prefer to come out at night, where they have learned to adapt and blend into the shadows. They're small and lean, and have much more acute night vision. Flight class wolves have softer wings that resemble an owl's to retain stealth. These wolves live in the most densely forested areas. Their paws are wide and their pads are soft to allow maximum stealth, and have the thickest fur.

Are they born into packs? Has their been transfers?

Also, what if a pairing from two different packs had an offspring? Do you think they'd be a hybrid of sorts?

Do you think you will make a species or reference sheet?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Wind--Borne In reply to Fayire [2016-09-25 23:20:07 +0000 UTC]

Yes, they are born into packs. There has been transfers, yes. When transferring, only the Mythic class Medic has the magic to remove one's brand before they are given a new one based on their new pack.

If they had offspring, yes, the offspring would show signs of both heritages. However between classes it is either the mother or the father's race, never a complete hybrid. Maybe if one of the parents was a Strength class and the other Flight, the offspring might be a Flight class with a larger build, or a Strenght class with a light frame, etc. Just small carry-overs.

I don't know about that as of yet

Fayire In reply to Wind--Borne [2016-09-26 10:55:32 +0000 UTC]

So there is Rank, Class and Pack as far as classification goes. The small carry overs makes sense, and I guess they are all the same species anyway, except for class which is more like heritage. I'd say class and pack stick to class and pack.

That's okay, I'm just really interested, you don't have to take great measures XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Wind--Borne In reply to Fayire [2016-09-26 11:08:29 +0000 UTC]

Class and pack normally do stick with class and pack, yes. It's not forbidden for different class wolves to become mates, but it's not as common as wolves of the same class being mates. Still happens though.

Between different packs, however, it's not forbidden, but it's greatly looked down upon, since the pups would be divided in their loyalty, and such relationships usually ended broken over fighting for rights to keep the pups unless the said pair broke off from the packs entirely. Smaller packs do roam around, almost all of them created in such a manner.

Do they live in their own universe or do they share it? Where do the 4 packs live? (As a whole)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Wind--Borne In reply to Fayire [2016-09-26 11:31:37 +0000 UTC]

The dimension they live in includes other animals too, although not as advanced. Basically where they live the wolves are the dominant species. However other mythical creatures exist here too. Dragons, griffins, the sorts. They all live in their separate 'Clans' (wolves, dragons, griffins, etc.).

As a whole they take up quite a lot of space. In all their territory combined, there is a wide plain and a small moor, a large dense forest, and the edges of the Mountain region. A river runs through the whole place, and into a lake.

I haven't really planned/designed the map just yet

Cool, do you have any information on ranks?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Wind--Borne In reply to Fayire [2016-09-30 08:50:16 +0000 UTC]

Alpha: You know, the leader. The alpha's word is final. The alpha's mate is usually not really considered an alpha, but they are highly respected. The alpha looks over the training of the pups, assign mentors, has the power to promote wolves through the ranks and holds ceremonies. They are also usually the ones who are at the front lines in battles.

Beta: Second in command, the betas usually organise patrols, helps the alpha strategise battles and advises them when assigning mentors.

Guards: When a pup chooses to be a guard, they are then taken into advance battle training. They're basically like the foot soldiers in battle. Usually the ones going on border patrols. The presence of more than 2 guards in one patrol usually means they are hostile to a level.

Hunters: If a pup chooses to become a hunter, they will be trained to catch larger and more dangerous prey, like deer and buffalo. They will also be taught how to be stealthy. Hunters usually mean they are at peace, when a leader needs to send a message to another pack, the said messenger will usually be a hunter. Hunters are very stealthy and speedy, they are usually the ones to do reconnaissance.

Mothers: She-wolves expecting or nursing pups.

Teachers: Wolves who train 6 moon old pups the basics of hunting, combat, healing and survival, until the said pups are 10 moons old. They work together to teach the pups, like a class.

Medics: Connected to the Spirit Wolves the most, medics are usually selected when pups between the age of 6-10 moons receive multiple visions from the Spirits. They are meant to heal, and are usually the ones receiving prophecies or omens.

Mentors: These wolves teach wolves who are 10 moons and older according to the ways of either the guards or the hunters.

Apprentices: These wolves are 10 moons+, and are learning from their assigned mentors according to the ways of either the guards or the hunters.

Fledgelings: pups between 6-10 moons, learning the basics of hunting, combat, healing and survival.

Grand alpha: The highest rank, they live alone or with their apprentices in the middle of the intersections of the territories. Chosen by their predecessor as a pup, they are taken into training at 10 moons. The grand alpha is present during the apprentice's ceremony when being assigned their official mentors. Kind of like a judge, too, when two packs have issues with each other the Grand Alpha is usually the one to settle it. After each Gathering (happens every moon), they will spend 3 nights with a pack, changing every time. This way they can check on pups and thus choose apprentices.

To-Be: The Grand Alpha's apprentice, will live with the Grand Alpha at 10 moons. Will be granted full abilities of one (both magic and wings), but will not have full powers until their predecessor has passed, which then they go to the Spirit's Crystal, where the spirit of their predecessor will pass down their powers.
