Description Matt is up again. I can hear him; his footsteps tapping along above my head as the floor creaks in his wake. It's not uncommon to hear this, but I'm starting to get worried. He never used to be up this late, this often. The sun went down long ago, and will probably come up again within six hours. But he's still up there, pacing. Wandering around his bedroom, and I don't know why.

Occasionally I'll make my way up to see if there's anything I can do. He'll just smile at me and let me know that he's okay. I usually remain with him for a little while after, and sometimes that seems to calm him down enough that he'll go back to bed to get some sleep before he has to leave for work. But other times, he doesn't go until long after I've gone back downstairs to fall asleep myself. Sometimes I don't know if he even sleeps.

I never see him during the day time. He's always working. His job must be hard with all the time he puts in. Sometimes he'll come home, pale and tired, only to go back out again. But usually he'll come home from work, and it almost seems like he's just waking up. He's never home during the day, though, so I can't imagine where he'd be sleeping and why he'd be resting on the job.

Tonight, as I go upstairs to check on him, I see something different in his eyes that I can't place. He doesn't look like the Matt I'm used to seeing. His hair his messy, and his skin is pale and sickly. I can hear his stomach growling, and I offer him something to eat. He only smiles and shakes his head with a dull laugh. I keep forgetting that he doesn't like the same food as I do.

I sit on his bed and watch him for awhile. He watches me back for a few minutes, running his hand through my hair. It feels really good, and I start to drift off. When I wake up, it's morning, and he's already left for work. I hope he got some sleep.

He comes home well past dark once again. He seems better than he did last night. He's smiling, and looks healthy. I notice a spot of red on his shirt, but pay it no mind. He probably cut himself shaving this morning, or broke a red pen. I'm just glad he's home. He pats me on the head, and I wag my tail happily at his feet.

He'll be up again tonight, and I'll be in his room, watching him until he falls asleep.

That's pretty good, actually. I hadn't actually fully decided on what was happened until the paragraph before. XD

Mhm. That was the last plot point that I thought of while writing. o.o I didn't really put it in purposely until the last couple paragraphs.

I've been talking to Matt Small since I got out of work. All I could think about in this story is him just because of the name
