Description A painted feather gift, commissioned by my friend Jeanne to her friend Sandy. Emrys is a barred owl that is a permanent resident at Horizon Wings, due to an injury that required the removal of his wing. Barred owls are just so beautiful!

Gorgeous, gorgeous job on this! Has a very old-world, wise look to it.

How lovely! The rough splotchy texture of the background and the way it blends into the owl really gives this feather personality. It blends so well between paint and feather surface too!

I'm learning to be looser with my paints which I think makes things look more natural. I'm absolutely in love with the surface of feathers as a canvas - it's indescribable...but it just takes paint so well (once you have the first layer on).

That's great to hear. I can't wait to try it out myself! I still have the feathers I primed while you were here sitting in my drawer awaiting paint. I just dunno what to paint on them yet!

The feather details here are amazing as always. The stump struck me as being especially well done.

Also, the owl is adorable.

I absolutely love these, yet after going to a 1920's themed birthday party, it's left me wondering whether you've tried to do these in a fan? I think it would look wonderful.

Just a question ^.^

I've had other people suggest painting on an entire tail as well. That would be...quite a challenge! I would have to secure the feathers down on the feather behind it (similar to my double-feather paintings, but instead with an entire tail!). It would definitely be a HUGE canvas, though!

Beautiful picture. Barred owls are, by far, my favorite birds. They have the most diverse personalities--they're all idiots, but adorable idiots in such amusing ways. Amazing art, as always. :3

absolutely beautiful! You've used the natural texture and patterns of the feather and the subject matter together well! How did you paint onto the feather without it breaking?

I love the mottled background, once again, it's so beautiful! How long is the feather?

This one's probably about 15 or 16 inches long. :3
