Description
"Oh! Why hello, friend. Welcome, come in! Come in!"Ah, a splendid night it is. And what has brought you here to my little library? Do you wish to hear a story? Perhaps a tale from my youth, when I was barely an owlet and a pupil under the great Master Scribe Buboctavius VIII? Ah, I was still learning the most basic of scripts...Master Buboctavius was so furious when I broke his prized phoenix quill and spilled an entire jar of ink on a whole sheet of vellum---!
"Oh? What's that? My midnight tidbits are scurrying away? Oh dear, I suppose it cannot be helped. I have far too many words to write and the moon is dipping down. Dawn shall soon be upon us and I must not fall behind."
Watercolor and colored pencil on hot-press Fabriano, 5 X 9 inches

He looks like the most charming and scholarly old geezer. ^^ And what a resolute fellow surrendering his meal for the sake of literature. A good deal of talent went into this.

Wonderful story, this guy could really work as a character in a children's book. I really love the way you paint too. I don't know how you're able to make everything look so nice with watercolors: they only fight with me. X.x

"Are your parents the Owl and the Pussycat? You must be both wise and agile. I am surprised that you are inside on such a night seeing as how Owls and Cats are mostly nocturnal. I suppose whether you're catching mice or writing for your master, doing things at night is in your nature. Your library is tantalizing. I will let you go, though, so you can catch up on your writing. It was nice to meet you."

I do agree with what Zephyri said, that there is a bit of the "old" feeling to this (which was most of the reason I clicked it form my inbox first ). But I also think that something about the color palette brings the entire image to a more modern look? I am not an art history person, so while I have no idea what I am talking about, I feel like a lot of older works were darker (literally in color, and figuratively), while this is a little brighter and bolder - I think it has to do with the lighting and the red book
I love the concept, and the writing in your comments section!

if I was ever writing a kids book about birds of gryphons, I'd totally hire you to do the illustrations... lovely old school feel to the whole thing, and I absolutely love the owl's face, he has such awesome amounts of character.

Aw, thanks :3 You know, for a while I was trying to get away from the 'old style' feeling of my illustrations and 'sharpen' them up, but I think I'm starting to embrace it. A lot of illustrations nowadays are so smooth and sharp and clean, but there's a place for 'older' feeling work, I think.

OMG I NOTICED THAT, and i found it very unique and something you don't usually see in deviant art... i see a lot of digital work here, and i love them, but when i see people admiring traditional art it ignites a little light in my heart. ^-^
