Description I somehow felt like drawing balls, and I was keeping in mind, that the group is having the monthly theme portrait, so I ended up having this - It is probably my best portrait so far, even though I am still not satisfied with the nose, the part between mouth and nose, and the proportion. The eye is still too big, the nose tends to be too short and small and the chin probably does not exist at all (luckily nobody can see that )

Anyway - I am probably to cruel with myself I like the expression

- mechanical pencil
- casual rubber
- A4

I like this.  I am not bothered by the slightly odd proportions as I assume that you were not aiming for a truly realistic drawing, but something a little more surreal (I see that I am not the first to think this, a thought arrived at quite independently!), with the bubbles echoing the prominent iris.  The detail in the iris of the eye is quite superb.  I am glad to see that you were not tempted to draw round circular templates for the circles.  I have seen in a book on portrait drawing the recommendation to use a circle template for irises, but to me this, like using a ruler for straight lines, always looks false in a drawing. In any case it is appropriate only if the eyes are looking directly out of the picture.   I remember using a cork borer to make a circular inlay on a marquetry picture I made when I was young.  My eye was always drawn to this very small part of the picture - it was a very bad mistake which I regret to this day.
You have something in your drawings that I will never have - originality and imagination.

Thank you so much!
I appreciate your feedback very much really! It means a lot to me since I have been watching you almost since the very beginning of my da-time and I admire you - you are a idol to me - your smooth blendings and perfect proportions and your truth to the reference picture while keeping your own vision...
(just as a side-note: My boyfriend is sitting next to me, and when I told him about you and about the little story that I watch you for a long time, and showed him some drawings of you, he just said: I really find the reziproke appreciation on that webside really awesome )
I actually never thought about the iris and the balls - it was not done on purpose in fact. I suppose, that there is in this sort of things always some kind of intuition. But in fact I started up drawing balls, having in mind, that I actually wanted to draw something I could enter to the thematic-folder. The composition was clear very quickly - only first I inteded to draw it in a way, that it would look like as if those bubbles would come out of her mouth. But I did not want to destroy the calm impact of the big eye staring right into the "camera".
Drawing circles using something... hmmm - I am probably going to do this when I really start working onto face-proportions - to make sure that they are right - the circle won't be seen in the end product then anyway. Thank you for bringing this to my attention - I never actually thought about it, and I might have tried it otherwise - thoughlessly... I must say: the balls are eyecatchy enough this way. I can imagine very well how they would draw the eyes if they were perfect circles.

Thank you so much for your compliment. It really means a lot to me and is an immense support.
btw. as you might have guessed, I voted on your girl - I found the other traditional portrait awesome too, but I just love the girl so much - it was no question to me how to vote
Have a wonderful rest of the weekend And thank you again

Thanks for the vote!  I voted for both of your pictures.  The voting of course is very flawed; I would never ask for votes, but the point is exposure, not winning.  I cannot understand those people on dA who say 'Give me a favourite / Watch and I will do the same for you' or even offer faves for Points.  What does a fave or watch mean if it is not freely given?
Returning to the FavouritesShowcase there are stupendous pictures in every poll.

Oh, yes! I totally agree - it is like the question if art is sellable. How can you possibly pay for art?
Thank you very much for your votes as well! I am not asking for votes either - I advertise the group for exactly what it is - I am writing features and journals saying that this group exposes and supports artists, and that it is worth joining - I really enjoy the spirit here!
Totally agree with you I suppose we look at the world through quite similar eyes

the eye looks really cool. right part of the picture could have been less empty, like filled with more hair that is flown by wind. I really like this picture and the bubbles : )

Windklang In reply to panthrieswent [2014-06-09 10:25:18 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much!
True - it is quite empty... I must say: I just started up drawing bubbles, and then it turned out like this at some stage. The emptyness somehow belongs to it. It is emotive - the eye stares into nothing as well. It was somehow a mood. True, it does not really flatter the composition, but I would probably not add anything, if I was drawing the same thing again. Actually the suggestion with working more detailed on the hair on the right side could work well.
Thank you a lot!!
I really appreciate your support!
