Description Been a while since I've submitted anything...

This is a painting of a Belgian Malinois and a German Shepherd. It was inspired because one of the clubs I'm in on campus is helping to raise funds for Backstoppers, a charity that provides funds for the families of police officers killed in the line of duty, and as /Malinois and Shepherds are what the local police are currently using...

Anyway, I'm very happy with how this came out. I used two photo references, one for each dog:

LOTS of hours! (been working on this since last Wednesday) PSCS3 and my tablet

i love all your art sofar, but dont you have any art you did without the help of a computer? just a scetch even, without photoshop or anything. id like to see how it looks withut all the effects you can add with that stuff because i bet its more impresive to see what you could/can do on paper.

I don't use any "effects you can add" thank you. I cannot see well enough to do traditional art anymore, my eye doesn't work well enough. I have sketches on here that I did on the computer, which basically lwould look the same on paper.

dont hafta flip out over that kay? my friends do a photoshop thing and call it art, im kinda not so crazy when they say that cuz i know they can draw better on paper then a stupid computer.

...Holy wow.

This has to be one of the most amazing dog-themed pieces I've seen to date. The background is beautiful, I love the texturing on the fur, and the colors blend very well with one-another. You did a terrific job. ^^

...Someone should suggest this as a Daily Deviation, because more people need to see the beauty of this piece.

Very nice. Love the detail, and I admire how the poses are changed from the references, instead of being exactly the same.

And hurray for not using the Grass Brush tool!!

Beautiful job! Love the soft autumn coloration. The DA watermark, however, makes me sad. ): (I'm a fan of soft personal watermarks myself.)

WindSeeker In reply to Brushfeather [2008-10-11 21:11:17 +0000 UTC]

yea, I generally don't use watermarks (save for my name on it and the date I finished it on) I'm thinking of taking off the watermark since my stuff is so rarely lifted anyway.

Avyris [2008-10-10 23:39:16 +0000 UTC]

Beautiful work. I love the impressionism of it, especially the background. Up close, it looks like a bunch of scribbly gook, but take a step back and it really comes alive. Well done.

EtherealWolf In reply to Avyris [2008-10-13 06:11:32 +0000 UTC]

Her art is affected by her blindness. She's not completely blind, but "legally." Maybe you alreay knew that, but if you didn't that should explain why, close up, it looks rough in spots.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Avyris In reply to EtherealWolf [2008-10-13 19:06:45 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I knew that. Doesn't change the fact that the impressionism of it is impressive. o.O No offense, but I see her as an artist first and a "legally blind person" second or third, and it bothers me a little that you seem to be drawing more attention to the latter than the former... as if she was a brillaint artist because she is blind or something.

I'm sure that was not your intent but that's sort of the impression I'm getting, especially since I don't really feel like my comment warranted anything that would suggest the need to draw attention to the artist's eyesight. I mean, impressionism is a totally valid and justified art form, regardless of the person who creates it, and it's art form I thoroughly admire. So why would her eyesight have anything to do with it?

Forgive me if I sound combative at all. Not my intention at all, honest. I just find it odd that people like to attach reasons to things that don't need them, using the exuse "she has bad eyesight" instead of simply admitting that she's a brilliant impressionistic artist. But I think I'm reading into this too much. Go figure. @.@

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EtherealWolf In reply to Avyris [2008-10-13 23:13:13 +0000 UTC]

...o_o

Honesly, I thought your comment was slightly insulting, what with saying up-close it looked like "scribbly gook." Impressionistic art is really neat, and it's something I can't pull off. But then there are lots of things that fit into that category.

I think it's great she still does what she loves. It shows real committment.

So I guess we just misunderstood each other? xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Avyris In reply to EtherealWolf [2008-10-14 01:04:45 +0000 UTC]

I didn't say scribbly "gook". o.O That WOULD'VE been insulting. I just said "scribled lines", which is basically what they are. X3 Gook would've implied something nasty like... boogers or something. But lines are just lines. *shrug*

Anyway, misunderstandings happen. I'm glad we managed to clear it up. ^^ And look, no punches were thrown. How rare is that on DA? XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EtherealWolf In reply to Avyris [2008-10-14 02:05:32 +0000 UTC]

O_o Maybe you should go back and read your comment, because you did use that word. Unless somehow our computer screens are displaying differing text. o-o [link] I took a screenshot. XD

Indeed. I generally stay out of the ring of drama. xP

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Avyris In reply to EtherealWolf [2008-10-14 20:14:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, our computers are displaying different text. o.O That's so weird. I totally typed lines there, I swear. I'd show you but I'm on a school's computer so I can't take screenshots. >< Dude... That's kind of trippy actually. DA's a' changin' muh words. XD

Well, whoever is right or wrong here, I meant "lines". Maybe I made a typo, I dunno. I was just saying that it was undetailed and unspecific up close. X3 Man... how weird is that? Seriously. I swear, when I checked the comment yesterday, it said lines. I know it did. I specifically went back and looked at it, I said "scribbly lines".
