She teaches femininity doesn't mean being prissy, that devotion to any passion leads to glory and that gving is far more rewarding than receiving.
And then she's also just a wonderful big sister and lovely lady.

She's a strong, feminine character whose personality is deep and interesting and who frankly deserves better

Even in the comics durin her transformation into Nightmare Rarity shows that she's generous. Her element of harmony was turned against her completely, by nightmares of someone more 'interesting' of something, that allowed the evil thingies to convince her that helping them would be a generous and caring thing to do.
Some people say she's too gaudy and flashy, which bothers me more. If Rarity likes fashion that's her business, and she likes showing he talents. That's like saying Rainbow Dash is too sporty and athletic. It's her central goal.
It's shown she's willing to do things without hesitation for her friends, making beautiful dresses and then remaking them into clothing that bothered her but in the end being happy her friends were happy.
Rarity shows some of best development and there's probably the least amount of episodes focused on her already.
