snap wyverns are the main species for my newish head world, the Isle of Avarice.
this is a closed species. if there's any interest i could make some adoptables!

the Isle of Avarice is a large, cone shaped floating island surrounded by a shallow sea. A huge dragon holding a massive magical crystal in its jaws twines through the caves on the underside of the island. the magic of the crystal holds the island together and keeps its residents alive. if the dragon were to let go of the crystal, the island would fall apart and everything on it would die, but the dragon does not let go because of his greed. this is how Avarice got its name!

here's some cool snap wyvern facts:

- snap wyverns dont have much limitation on what their colors and markings can be but they tend to be quite bird like in the ways they are marked. markings and body structure is less defined by genetics and more defined by the magic present where individuals are born.

- snap wyverns are born from eggs. they can walk, speak, and fly within days of hatching. eggs are laid in a communal nest, young are raised by the entire flock, and parentage is sometimes unknown or otherwise forgotten.

- snap wyverns like to live in groups(simply called a flock) of around 10-30 individuals, though much larger flocks are definitely not unheard of. their social structure is very fluid and there are always members joining and leaving flocks. some snap wyverns are content to stay with one flock for a long time, but most like to experience new things and meet new members of their species.

- snap wyverns got their name from the way they snap their jaws shut which makes a clacking noise that is part of their communication. their voices are bird like and they speak with complex patterns of chirping and screeching.

- snap wyverns rely on their sharp vision. both sets of eyes have nictitating membranes which protect them from water and debris. their sense of smell is very poor and their hearing is average at best.
