Description Newsflash: You're not going to move to Japan. You're not going to become a famous manga artist. Get over yourself.

I had that sad delusion too, but now I realize how retarded I was. Sure, I've taken Japanese for almost 6 years now and that's my major in college. Do I intend on using it for anime? No. I don't know what I'll use it for, but I love learning the language, it's shitloads of fun. I don't force myself to learn it so I can finally sub Deathnote and gain the admiration of 13 year old girls.

I can draw better than what is seen on here, the pictures are just there... to be there, I guess.

EDIT: No, I will not translate your yaoi doujin. Why the fuck do you need hentai translated? Doesn't the picture give away what's going on?

Well normally when one is learning a language, one will want to USE IT with other people that understand it so that way they can IMPROVE.

I would go to Japan for a holiday, get some manga and anime (coz you can't find crap in NZ) but then I most definitely see the sites and the true beauty of Japan is definitely the culture.

Wait. People actually had the audacity to ask this sort of thing here?

And THANK YOU. It's a tremendous relief to hear some common sense around here, not to mention actually knowing the facts.

Move to japan to be a manga artist? What the hell would that accomplish ._.? You can be a manga artist and still live in america, but still a VERY risky career

I personaly think being a cartoonist is more profitable and fun

However they take a shit load of work , but working for companies like Disney or Dreamworks already tells you that you'd win a shit load of money if you work hard

And real Japan is beautiful. Very.

I am not a weeaboo.. but this is my dream job. Not mangaka, but an animator for people's entertainment... A weeaboo stole a doujinshi I was working on... and I was raised in japan and returning. I so agree with you. I have weeaboos in this anime manga club,but.... god they're annoying... Everytime I go check on them, it's full of fat, white, asian wannabe... It's creepy when they follow me around.... =_=
especialy when I'm with a friend.

Holy shit fuck.

I never wanted to get into the manga business or anything; I don't even like it that much anyway (Okay I like Hetalia...a lot...and I don't really know why, it's not that good and I'll admit that. I also hate most of the fandom...oh I should stop) but I had no idea that particular business was so difficult. I want to be a professional artist be it animator, comic artist, modeler, or what-not, but from what I know about the art world is it's really hard to be successful at it if you don't have true dedication and the desire to constantly improve. Most weeaboos have motivation but they don't feel the need to really improve and they don't have a lot of dedication. I know what I'm talking about, I know tons of them. One of which thinks her art is the next best thing since sliced bread, and I had to try really hard not to tell her it actually sucks. One time I was trying to give her constructive criticism on one of her drawings, which was this really skinny and gay anime guy who's anatomy was horrible, and she got all defensive and honestly said "You're one of those picky human artists, aren't you??" I asked her if she wanted to improve her art, and one of her weeaboo friends stepped in and they both agreed that she didn't need to. So I said "So much for making it in the art community, huh?" Needless to say she doesn't talk to me any more.

It's scary how much I agree with you O_o I love to draw, and I think I'm decent. But I have a lot I need to improve on, and I know it. Do I wish I could be a sucessful manga artist? Yeah. Do I realize that it's highly unlikely and not a practical carrer idea? I do. And don't you just hate it when people take constructive critiscm the wrong way? News flash- you need to understand your anatomy to draw manga/anime well. And even professionals are always trying to improve, so no one can say that they don't need to get better.
(And yeah, I love Hetalia... But a lot of the fanbase is scary O_O)

this made me laugh so hard! /yes/ i draw anime /no/ i don't expect to get a job in it XD

there is about 3 kids from my class who want to go to japan to be MANGA-KA KAWAII DESU, there's 1 kid who actually graduated to live and work in japan, a second quit school to go become trained in swordsmanship and currently attends one of the only 2 accredited schools for ninja training in the world. neither of these boys draw anime and one is an extremely talented programmer and the other is an out-of-this-world traditional artist.

i kind of wish i could smack a couple of the weebs who come into classes thinking they're going to be omgfamussss one day--

OMG
"Why the fuck do you need hentai translated? Doesn't the picture give away what's going on?"
That's a quotable quote right there. Somebody needs to use that as their signature!
Isn't one of the worst parts of the problem that people want to do this too directly? I'm positive you know better than me, but I know if I wanted to become a manga artist in Japan, what I would do, besides learning Japanese, would be to try to get them to hire me to teach English to high school students in Japan. If I actually succeeded, then that would pretty much automatically give me a reason to be in Japan, a way to get there, a place to live there, and a REAL job with a Japanese paycheck that was at least just barely big enough to keep me living indoors.
A whole lot of mangas and animes are about high school age kids, so what better way to learn about them then to teach them all day? Then... with all of that, I could do art on the side, but I would not have 9 hours a day to devote to it. Still though, that sounds like a better idea. But you know better than me. How good of an idea is that? I'm NOT doing it though! I don't wanna live in Japan! I just like anime!

I agree about the real Japan part. It's honestly so nice there, especially in the country in certain parts. It's not perfect there, but some places have just such a wonderful atmosphere, such as the shrines and temples.

And, yeah, I'm sick and tired of people saying they want to be a Mangaka. The japanese are slightly xenophobic. They probably wouldn't accept you unless you were an AMAZING artist, and could speak the language fluently. But it is a fun hobby

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

morikun-rinari In reply to Amaringo [2012-03-14 05:48:35 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I suspect xenophobia would be a pretty tough obstacle for any foreign artist from making a profit in Japan unless they become well integrated into the culture and become a fluent Japanese speaker. It's also a bigger plus if one can take the time to understand some of history instead of diving head first for the anime/manga stuff.

I never realized that Japan was that expensive, and Japanese is THAT hard to learn? Dear God I'd rather stick with Spanish and English being the only languages I know (although one day I would like to know a bit of Chinese or Arabic )

Eat-me-death [2011-08-04 14:14:27 +0000 UTC]

Daaaaaammmmnnnnn it costs that much just to get a house in Japan? It's already bad enough that costs a shit-ton just to get there (from what i was told, anyways), but having that much just to get a house? And it takes 9 years to be fluent in Japanese? Hell, I'd learn Russian and Korean at the same time over Japanese (even though I was born in Japan, true story).

Also, I can't draw, so it'd be impossible for me to become a manga artists, even if I tried and wanted to.

Pardon my random pondering, but I'm a little confused about the house prices. XD A five-bedroom house in Tokyo is $33,000? But that's... *googles* ยฃ20,000. I live in a tiny terraced two bedroom house that's worth ยฃ130,000 ($211,000). I thought you said it was expensive. Or are house prices just DRASTICALLY different between here and there? xD; I'm wondering whether you meant rent.
