Description
Newsflash: You're not going to move to Japan. You're not going to become a famous manga artist. Get over yourself.I had that sad delusion too, but now I realize how retarded I was. Sure, I've taken Japanese for almost 6 years now and that's my major in college. Do I intend on using it for anime? No. I don't know what I'll use it for, but I love learning the language, it's shitloads of fun. I don't force myself to learn it so I can finally sub Deathnote and gain the admiration of 13 year old girls.
I can draw better than what is seen on here, the pictures are just there... to be there, I guess.
EDIT: No, I will not translate your yaoi doujin. Why the fuck do you need hentai translated? Doesn't the picture give away what's going on?

Perhaps that's how much you have to pay up front? If so, $33,000 is a ridiculous amount of money.

I want to be a comic artist but will I go to Japan? No.
The whole entire effort to go and live in Japan is just rediculous.I can be a comic artist right here in the U.S and I'm not looking for fame just a living off my art.
And I laughed so hard on the yoai doujin thing.

oh i forgot to say something.
i want to learn japanese too and i've taken some college classes but i'm done with that! it's too hard -__- too many kanji... o__O but i don't know how your teachers are and your classes are so i mean who knows, maybe if i had your teachers i would think it was fun! but it hasn't been to fun for me oh well. it was never my major. politics is. and i don't HAVE to learn Japanese, i'm not going to use it for a job. so it's okay that i stopped taking the classes.

well...
i do want to be a manga artist. however, i don't want to live in japan, i want to stay here. i have never wanted to live in japan.
your comic is hilarious!! i love it even though my dream is becoming a manga artist <33333 and i support anyone who wants to move to japan. but it's true that i and those others should realize the difficulties and hard work.
my thing is though, i know that being a manga artist requires a lot of time and deadlines and pressure. but... so do other jobs. if i said "i'm not going to be a pro artist, instead i'll do a better job" or whatever... that job too would likely require hard work, many hours, and deadlines. sure, a few people are able to make a living with easy jobs that dont require a lot of hard work. but most likely, whatever job you pick will be time-consuming and challenging at times. so you might as well be drawing <3
though... if art doesn't work out for me i can get some political job, that's my other interest!
i love your like about hentai doujins... lol

I admit, I would like to be mangaka, but it would be hard, I know about true Japan, and its absolutely beautiful, and this is coming from someone who adores manga and anime.
Wow with the economy, I didn't know about that, it'll probably help.
NOW, I agree with most of this, and well, yeah.. But your being a bit harsh aren't you? Like crushing a persons dreams. I dont really care whatever people say, and I would prefer to just be a regular comic artist here where I come from. In my heart still have that lil dream of being a mangaka in Japan, but yep. Will be hard, practically impossible.

I already looked into it a long time ago simply because people said "you should draw!" as my career. Now me, knowing full well- I hardly have the MOTIVATION or even the simple desire of working on a piece that will take more than three days time. I make the quick decision to avoid art school and look for a career best suited to my knowledge and skill. That and I don't work well with time restraints :o

ToddNTheShiningSword In reply to KazuyoNoUchiyasu [2011-08-19 09:16:09 +0000 UTC]
Did people say you should draw because they were family members that loved all your childhood drawings as a kid? If so, then what happened to you was a lot like what happened to me. Everybody said I should draw because they all loved all my little childhood drawings, but I just drew that stuff because I didn't want to be bored. I definitely did not have any motivation, and I could not even SEE how someone could spend more than 2 days on a piece, let alone more than 3. I don't work well with time restraints either (But I'm struggling to make an entry in time in this OC art contest I'm in), and I too QUICKLY decided to avoid art school.
I JUST began to find passion in art recently.

Same goes for Japanese Video Games also man. I like Anime, Video Games and Manga... But I have a normal social live + I don't think Japan is that sort of superb awesome. Katana's are not better than European LongSwords for those who are Pro Katana here.
I guess that people in Japan don't make a great living of designing, programming games or producing Manga or Anime IS because it is very quantitive (IMO). Every month there come two to six JRPGs and Visual Novels in the Japanese Market (Ok, maybe not every month. But I am taking this serious). Because there is SO MUCH Video Games in Japan, it is likely that only the Most Popular Ones get their Great Cash, while other Game Designers have to live with 1300 euros per month for example. Two years ago, I thought 'I REALLY WANT TO WORK IN JAPAN LATER, Reason: To also become a Famous Autistic Game Designer like Satoshi Tajiri'. But now, it is just a mere alternative. I am not attracted to East Asian Women, I don't like Sushi (I guess), I want to sleep in a bed, (I already live in an Appartement; So I have no problem living in an appartement building..), I have to bid farewell to my friends and family... AND I am quite lazy of learning Japanese. I don't even want to use Anime, I rather and I HAVE THEM: Books how to use Japanese conversation OR books about the Japanese Social Culture and stuff.
Akihabara and all the great Japanese RPGs including Tales of; Might me be very tempting for me. But I rather go doing Game Designer work in Holland, England, Germany, Belgium or if it MUST and Can I HOPE: The united states of America.
I still want to create Japanese RPGs with Anime/Manga Shounen Graphics and Style, BUT because I find the art style of modern manga very appealing to me. And JRPGs are for me: Stories of a Book mixed with some Anime/Manga influences + Mythology, Science and Philosophy.
If I would have a better oppurtunity in being JRPG Game Designer outside Holland in the future, I might take it. But I still hope it is not far away from home. I also would like to go to Japan around my 18, Just to see how Japan in it's overall looks like. The nature, the modern stuff (anime XD), shrines, legends, stories, social way of life, geographic, demographic, etc.
But... wait, if Manga is such a shitty career... Why do new Manga's come all the time? Why are many Japanese people doing Manga and Game Design if they only get crappy low cash (for one of the highest economical nations of the world, they kinda live crappy according to many sources). There are also NON-Doujinshi Manga Creators in The Western World. Bad Example: Nick Simmon's Manga which is now on a hold because it plagiarism to BLEACH.
I would like to do some Japanese language courses in the holidays maybe, BUT ONLY FOR INTEREST. I also have the feeling that without Japanese, I can't even go there as a tourist without being stranted in the world of unknown... Even iCarly shows people that you can't do much without speaking the language in Japan.
My friend, I have a feeling we have lots to talk about. Positively or just deep to earth. I myself am happy to live in the Netherlands. I have friends, family, a fine home, a busy highschool stuff to do XD. But I don't have to wear uniforms atleast... or being nationalistic...
But I think that if I want to pursue my dreams into the Game Design of Japanese Style and Influences, I guess I have to fulfill my dreams in the UK or the USA or... Germany?
There is one thing I have to say for now. Western Games don't go to Japan, why? I don't know. In the past: Spyro PSX came to Japan, Spyro Legends NOT. South Park PAST came to Japan, South Park of NOW ... Not? Even Lost Winds needed Squeenix help to go the rising sun. I wonder if the market is very appealing for Game Designers there?

Hm, that price for a 5-bed home in Tokyo doesn't strike me as right. You'd be lucky to find a 5-bed inner-city house in the states for under $100k. In Japan, you'd also be hard-pressed to find an apartment to rent for under $800/month. I've seen cars for $33k. Nice, nice cars. But cars.
Perhaps you meant 33,000,000 yen, for $330k USD? Or maybe you meant the price per year, for one room... Or the price per month, for the whole 5-bed complex? (Yeesh.)
