edit: Added a bit more detail to the pupils and other areas of the face and hoodas well.This is a bit more different from my normal stuff but I figured I need more people practice since I suck at them. I've been into a lot of soldier concepts with armor and masks lately, it's time to show more other things as well. I can't help it, it's what I dream about almost every day but my gf always tells me it's not good for me lol. She rather see me paint fantasy art with elves and cute fairies.
let the light and shadows speak for it self.

Whoa that's cool, love the strokes and the brushes you use, please make a Brush set you post here on dA with the ones you use for that kinda stuff or where you can get them, as they are bitchin'.
You got skills at this too! And yeah, I agree with you GF about that you should do other stuff aswell, not just war images, do something really bright and happy once, you'll learn shedloads and you will get in a much better mood, will be good for you, trust me!

You don't need much more practice... this is damn good work.
...and there's nothing wrong with painting elves and faeries every so often.
Especially if you show them getting tagged by giant armored robots with big frickin' guns!

I love the colours and the shadows man! A break from post modern warfare? Maybe it is in order...
I'm not so sure about the background though, it disturbs the image I think.
Off topic: Have you seen the trailer for Halo 3:Recon? When you play as an ODST in the ruins of New Mombasa right after Halo 2 is set.
