Ummm...this may just be my computer, but the tutorial is showing up with white text on a background that exactly matches the page background (the neutral gray-green), and it's a really eye-tiring combination.

It might be your computer. Mine shows it as a dark grey green.

this is pretty cool. (but I still don't accept the whole "colo(u)r wheel" concept). faery and I fight over colors all the time.

WisdomsPearl In reply to indigo-thorn [2008-07-11 22:51:17 +0000 UTC]

LOL I actually learned recently that it's the proper English way to spell it, so I thought I'd give it a go

indigo-thorn In reply to WisdomsPearl [2008-07-19 19:09:18 +0000 UTC]

oh, I'm all for the spelling. I just don't like the concept of putting colo(u)rs in a wheel.

Really? I love the color wheel

haha. another typical artist (though, in all honesty, the color wheel is just the only thing that I've been able to goad faery into arguing about...)

LOL "Typical Artist"

hmph. artists are generally pretty snooty, with their fancy color wheels and gradiations and whirligigs. honestly. and don't get me started on their grammar...

yeah...I shouldn't take it out on pathetic dA addicts, though. especially since that includes me....
I just spent my afternoon reading an essay about how nobody can become a published author...written by a published author. now if that's not depressing...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WisdomsPearl In reply to indigo-thorn [2008-07-21 22:00:05 +0000 UTC]

Ooh, ouch. I read the same type of article... It basically said that your story has to be so intriguing within the first few chapters that the publisher/agent will be desperate for it. Since the world is so desensitized nowadays and it's harder to keep them amused, that's just the way books and novels have to be. Imagine if Jane Austen wrote her stories today... would they be published? or, what about Charles Dickens... would the publisher consider his stories boring?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

indigo-thorn In reply to WisdomsPearl [2008-07-21 22:06:38 +0000 UTC]

yup. neither of them would have a chance. unless our friend jane rewrote pride and prejudice as like...passion and pulp the steamy romance novel ("Oh, Darcy! Take me- I'm yours!")
*please pause while indi runs off and hurls.*
*ahem, resume*
I'm sorry. that was, like, blasphemy. anyways, yes, apparently 90% or so of the books that actually get examined are discarded after the first page. talk about pressure! I'm considering blowing up the country in the third paragraph or so. But then the rest of the book might be rather slow...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WisdomsPearl In reply to indigo-thorn [2008-07-21 22:09:56 +0000 UTC]

LOL Hasta La Vista! *Explode*

Oh my gosh... I think Pride and Prejudice would have worked nowadays if Jane Austen wrote the characters as swanky Manhattan women, sleeping around, and trying to find love (obvious Sex and the City reference)... that always seems to work with publishers. Never the stories about the virtuous girls waiting for their true love...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

indigo-thorn In reply to WisdomsPearl [2008-07-21 22:13:41 +0000 UTC]

oh, no, I mean, who does that anymore? fidelity...decency...moral standards. just so outdated. what's that? STDs? AIDS crisis? Abortions? completely unrelated.
(there she goes being caustic again...)

*then again, I don't think green-eyes would appreciate it if I blew up his country before he was even born. I don't think my co-author would appreciate it either...

indigo-thorn In reply to WisdomsPearl [2008-07-21 23:06:21 +0000 UTC]

why, thank you. but I don't suppose sarcasm is very dignified, is it?
I'm not advocating sitting around and waiting for some guy to rescue you. that's nonsense (and I'm far too feminist). rather, fulfillment shouldn't come from romance at all. first be confident in your identity and have your desire for love sated the way it was intended, by the creator. if you're going in the right direction, you don't have to tarry, waiting for some guy to catch up. if he's worth having, he'll be going the same way, just as fast. (I don't mean you as in you personally. I'm just preaching to the choir, I think.) er, sorry. hard to curb the preachy impuse.
I've just been developing my views on such things.

Hear Hear! I'm not searching for a man, he should be searching for me. The Bible says "when a man finds his wife" Right now, I'm just kicking back and relaxing and being happy where I'm at at this time Because, what else can I do? I can't make a man like me, he'll like me no matter what I do and if it's meant to be, things will happen. I'm not worried about a relationship right now

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

indigo-thorn In reply to WisdomsPearl [2008-07-22 00:01:07 +0000 UTC]

thank you! so many of my friends seem obsessed with "getting a guy" It leads them into this "Why doesn't he like me? I'm not good enough" mentality, that is truly self destructive. In the words of somebody...somewhere...whose name I have forgotten..."You can't make anyone love you. You can only decide what to do with the love that is given you."
it is very hard for me, sometimes, to just leave it to God and trust him to make the right thing happen. but that's all I can do. lovin' your chill.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WisdomsPearl In reply to indigo-thorn [2008-07-22 00:10:18 +0000 UTC]

It's aaaallll cool *kicks back*

I hate the term, "getting a guy" it sounds like they are out on the hunt with tranquilizer guns, preparing to "tame" and "tag" a man, which brings up another thing... I'm not the type of girl to make a man become someone different. I want him to be who he is.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

indigo-thorn In reply to WisdomsPearl [2008-07-22 00:18:40 +0000 UTC]

haha. I can just see it- all these girls on safari. like "Oi! I think I spotted one! And 'es a beauty!"

I think in a serious relationship both people have to adjust. but why date a guy you don't really like? why try to change him into someone else? (well, okay, maybe edward cullen. jk- he's not my type.) no one, girl or guy, should feel pressured to lose him/herself for the other. identity is huge, man.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WisdomsPearl In reply to indigo-thorn [2008-07-22 00:25:45 +0000 UTC]

totally, man, HUGE. If you feel the relationship going in that direction, it might be time to talk things out. And, when you're married, don't make the man so demasculinized that he has to beg you to even life his arm... Gosh, what is wrong with these women... they cage their husbands up and decrease the man's will to live!

I'm going to have a "No Nagging" Policy.

LOL "Crikey! He;s set his eyes on another girl! TAG HIM! QUICK!" *shoots tranquilizer* "He's mine now!"

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

indigo-thorn In reply to WisdomsPearl [2008-07-22 00:31:02 +0000 UTC]

"Hey! I saw 'im first!"

haha. um, masculine is kind of unavoidable in a man...people gotta learn to deal with it. In all reality, I will probably nag at some point. (but, hey, he'll probably do something really annoying too! like snore really loud or something...) respect is really important, I think. He needs to respect me (and the fact that I reaaaaallly want him to take out the trash right now.) and I've got to respect him (and the fact that he is a sentient being, capable of deciding when to take out the trash himself.) (erm. hopefully, he is...)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WisdomsPearl In reply to indigo-thorn [2008-07-22 00:44:14 +0000 UTC]

Taking out the trash is one of the most used examples

I don't want my husband to refer to himself as "whipped" and I, by no means, want to make my husband that way

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

indigo-thorn In reply to WisdomsPearl [2008-07-22 00:46:53 +0000 UTC]

oh...perhaps I should have come up with something more original, er, feeding the lion, perhaps, or dusting the nuclear reactor...

oy. very true. I agree wholeheartedly. and let me just say that if my husband tries to manipulate me, he will be feeding the lion more directly than he first thought.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WisdomsPearl In reply to indigo-thorn [2008-07-22 00:51:19 +0000 UTC]

LOL How about, sweeping the amazon floor? Dusting the Nuclear reactor, though, is a pretty good one

indigo-thorn In reply to WisdomsPearl [2008-07-22 00:54:18 +0000 UTC]

or he could cook the falafel..but I don't like falafel. hmm...amazon. most likely I'd have him killing mosquitos. (I don't know if they have mosquitos in the amazon...but it sounds like they would...)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WisdomsPearl In reply to indigo-thorn [2008-07-22 00:57:41 +0000 UTC]

Oh, they have mosquitos in the amazon... Crazy big ones that would require massive bug sprayers... and, if they don't get you, they've got pythons, tarantulas, jaguars, etc.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

indigo-thorn In reply to WisdomsPearl [2008-07-22 01:01:11 +0000 UTC]

oh! well, I currently have 13 mosquito bites. (yes, I counted.) and I sure don't live in the amazon. I don't even want to think about what the jaguars would do. aisch. somehow, in my mind, Mr. Darcy has turned into Tarzan. oh, my. (I wonder if I could trade that nuclear reactor for a giant fly swatter.)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WisdomsPearl In reply to indigo-thorn [2008-07-22 01:35:24 +0000 UTC]

Me Darcy, you Lizzy...

Well, the Jaguars would basically do the normal shebang... lunging and then cutting off your air ways... *ehem* anyways, now I'm starting to feel caustic today... I don't know, today is a little boring to me and a little sarcasm is a pick up for me

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

indigo-thorn In reply to WisdomsPearl [2008-07-22 17:58:34 +0000 UTC]

gee. that's reassuring. (I can just see it: "I have 13 jaguar bites, and I think I might need some better repellent...")
sarcasm generally helps make life interesting. and it often drives people crazy. which is even more interesting.
