Description ... Turning Around ...
Shot with a Canon PowerShot SX1 IS in Super Macro mode

This nice ladybug was helping me get rid of the aphids on the cat grass, probably a gardener's best friend.

Full View recommended, I hope you like it!

I shoot with a Canon PowerShot SX1 IS, so the integrated lens is the only one I have for this photo I used Super Macro mode and a shallow DOF

oh ok. Do you only use a Canon PowerShot SXI IS for all your photographs?

Yup my older shots were taken with a PowerShot A630 instead...

Just wondering, a friend of mine was considering a Canon Powershot SX40 HS and asked my opinion. I went straight to a Canon T3i Rebel, so I didn't have much of an answer for her.

I see well, the Canon bridge series has improved quite a bit since my SX1 was released, so I would totally recommend the SX40, unless she's looking for something more professional with the possibility to interchange lenses... if that's the case she could go for either the EOS 1100D/Rebel T3 or the 650D/Rebel T4i, which however are a bit more expensive (at least on the European market).

She's just starting and her budget is around $400, the Canon SX40 is on sale from $430.00 to $350.00 right now, so she was contemplating that one.

If I went back in time I'd buy the SX1 again and if I hadn't bought it then and were to buy a bridge camera today, I'd definitely try to get my hands on the SX40 I believe its lens can achieve very nice things with the right settings.
I hope this can be of some help for your friend ^^

I'll relay your information to her. Thank you. I also sent her a link to your profile, so she could see some of the good work the Canon SX1 can achieve.

Thank you! I've been shooting with compact/bridge cameras and one of the main things I learnt is that flash is [almost always] bad and makes pictures ugly, so I disabled it completely and whenever the camera "says" that there's too little light to shoot, I'll go look for more, and it has to be natural.
That's probably where my attention for light comes from. ^^ Morning and sunset are my favourite shooting times of the day.
