They could feel the warm sand under their feet, the heat a reminder of how scorching it was under the blazing sun. Hallovini kept her sensitive ears alert for any sounds that could potentially pose a threat. Ever on edge she lived, with fear lying in wait. Not the fear for her life, but the fear for her child's. Falter. Falter was the reason she fought so hard, so her little butterfly could live better than she did. So he didn't have to grow up knowing starvation, lonliness, hatred and fear. She wanted him to grow up knowing safety, love, compassion, kindness. However, it hadn't been that way. The moment he was born in the empire of Vryllthia, he was burdened to live the same life she had. Not to mention Hallovini hadn't been able to afford a home, and had to keep wandering from place to place. There were people after her from her old days as a pit fighting champion. A title she had given up when she discovered she was in love with Vegrail, the Bloodborn leader, and pregnant with his child. Low and behold, she hadn't told him after she had discovered he was with another. A broken heart and pride was what kept her from asking help from the Leader.

Taking a deep breath, she soon froze. Small clicking, chirps reached her ears but these weren't the calls of birds. She knew these calls to well: hunting calls. And not from any normal predator, they were from her species. Falter heard these calls and looked up at his mother in curiosity as she curled her tail in front of him protectively. Nostrils taking in deep breaths of the air, her blood chilled. There was something odd about these creatures. They reeked of illness. Falter caught this too, his eyes widening as fear began to cause him to tremble, an action his mother picked up.

"Behind me Falter." Hallovini ordered quietly as Falter began to move as his mother lifted her head.

"Mother, what's wrong?" He asked, voice trembling "I'm scared."

Hallovini said nothing as the calls grew louder, she only took deep breaths before letting out a small hiss. A signal to those approaching not to grow closer. She wasn't afraid to use her fangs and teeth, a gift nature had blessed her with and an ability to use them effectively.

"Falter...the moment you hear the sound of air being sucked in...run"
