As the luster leaves a child's eye,
And the days grow old;
As the flowers bloom only to die
And fall to bitter cold;
Time flies by...
As the lover lets out a lonely sigh,
Thinking of the one they love;
And the soldier releases one last cry
As death closes over like a glove;
Time flies by...
And as the years go creeping past,
We understand our time won't last.
And yet we act as if we are free
To spend our time as fit we see,
To pretend our time reaches the sky!
As time flies by...
And so we think, as we die,
Of all the time that we did waste.
And we sit and wonder why
We did not act with more haste.
We knew someday our time would end.
And yet, we cannot comprehend
The simple truth in the twinkle of an eye
That says, "Time flies by!"
