I felt a need to write this because this year we didn't get a new Skylanders game on a console.
Yes I know that Skylanders is geared towards the younger gamers, and since I'm an adult gamer you might think that I should be playing Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed instead.
Honestly I don't care for COD or Assassin's, I like Skylanders for many reasons.

1. Toys come to life gimmick
I like action figures and Skylanders is one of the few video games that combines gaming and figure collecting.

2. Great figures
The figures are detailed, I really like the character designs.
Some of them like Countdown totally remind me of the characters from the Kinnikuman manga which I read growing up.
Others like Pop Fizz is more like an Ed Roth Rat Fink style.
While other figures like Lightning Rod could totally belong in Bikkuriman.

3. Enjoyable game
The game play is also a huge reason why I like Skylanders so much.
Some of these games today are way too complex for me to handle.
I'm trying to play some first person shooter game and I have no idea how to switch weapons, reload, and crouch down etc.
Skylanders on the other hand is simple to play.
Some parts can be difficult, but for the most part you can tell it's designed for you to actually beat and see the ending.
A lot of it can be just button mashing, but if you want to play technical, Skylanders has that too.
Each Skylanders game also include mini games and even a few areas where it becomes a platformer game like the old school Super Mario.
There is also a lot of replay value because your bound to end up with more than a handful of figures, and each figure makes the game feel somewhat different.

4. Retro game vibe
The Skylanders game is modern, but if you really think about it, it plays like a retro video game.
Yes you heard me correct, Skylanders actually plays like an old school game that I use to play in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000.
So even though it's a modern game, it has a nostalgic feel to it.
