A gift for kbafourthtime.deviantart.com . After seeing his made up journal that one his characters and once old foe Curtis and his new wife died in a plane crash. I wrote this short story where Curtis visited Ricky and asks for forgiveness five weeks before his untimely death.

Forgiveness

Ricky is at the cemetery putting a rose on Curtis and Arachne graves after the funeral service was over. He walks to Katie along with Clara.

RICKY

Thanks for coming with me Clara and you too Katie.

CLARA

No problem.

KATIE

We're always with you (hugs him) Ricky.

CLARA

Sorry Cindy and Tom couldn't make it. They done have a terrible cold and with this cold weather I didn't want them to git sicker. Their Pa is with them helpin' them git well.

RICKY

No worries.

They start walking.

CLARA

I understand he was your enemy?

RICKY

Yeah he was. But that was only because his aunt abused him and wanted him to be tough. When I saw her doing that to him I thought I thought I did the right thing by calling the police and arrest her, but he blamed me because she was the only he had. I guess I shouldn't have done that.

CLARA

I think y'all did the right thing.

RICKY

Really?

CLARA

An Aunt is supposed to love and protect their niece or nephew. I'm certain Curtis knows deep down that he's thankful fer what you did and he probably regrets all the horrible things he done.

RICKY

Maybe you're right.

KATIE

I don't know. He's never apologized to you has he?

RICKY

Actually he did.

KATIE

What? When?

RICKY

It was five weeks ago before I found out he met someone, got married and then died in the plane crash. He came into my house one night. I was in my bed sleeping and when I woke up he was standing there. I thought he was getting revenge for getting his aunt arrested but he wasn't angry or vengeful. He was upset and depressed.

KATIE

What did he say?

Cut To

Ricky is sleeping in his bed at night five weeks ago. It's 1:00 in the morning. A shadowy figure walks and stops next to Ricky's bed. Ricky wakes up and puts his glasses on.

RICKY

Whose there?

He turns on the light and sees Curtis Leon standing there.

RICKY

CURTIS!?

CURTIS

Hello Ricky.

RICKY

How'd you get in here?

CURTIS

Your window was open.

RICKY

Now look Curtis. I don't want to any trouble. I can (picks up a baseball bat) still defend myself.

CURTIS

I'm not here to fight Ricky. I came here to talk.

Ricky is surprised. He puts down the bat.

RICKY

Okay. What do you want to talk about?

Curtis sits on the bed looking regretful and depressed.

CURTIS

This world is stupid. It's all stupid. I can't believe I was born in this hateful world.

Ricky looks puzzled.

CURTIS

For a long time I've acted like a jerk. I punched kids, call them names and harass them. I didn't want to do it and you may not believe me but I hated myself for doing it. This was because my Aunt forced me to do it. I keep telling her I don't to but she wanted me to be tough and kept abusing me until I do it. She's done that when I had to live with her as a kid and after my parents died. Every bloody day she's done that.

Tears run down his eyes. He wipes them off with his arms.

CURTIS

Then I met you. It's true that I kept punching you and then you punched me back. That was really cool. On the day you saw my Aunt abused me in public and got her arrested yes I was angry and blamed you because she was the only family I had. Then deep down I knew that I should be grateful because my Aunt was pushing me too hard. I was able to hurt her, but after what you did I realize you saved me before I made the biggest mistake.

He rubs his eyes.

CURTIS

I came here Ricky to ask for your forgiveness. Everyday when my Aunt wasn't looking I regret every horrible thing I've done including harming you.

He gets up.

CURTIS

Who am I kidding? Nobody will forgive me. To them I'm the meanest and horrible jerk that terrorizes them. I can understand that you don't want to accept my apology. I also came to forgive you for getting my Aunt arrested. I'm glad she's in jail and I hope she rots there.

He starts walking to the open window.

RICKY

Curtis wait.

Curtis stops and turns around.

RICKY

Yes it's true you were a jerk but after seeing what happened I knew everything is not your fault, but your relative who made you the way you are. So I accept your apology.

Curtis is surprised. He walks up to him.

CURTIS

You...forgive....me?

RICKY

Yes. I can see you want to make amends and I'm certain that everyone will find in their hearts to forgive you.

CURTIS

That's the kindest thing everyone said to me. Thanks buddy.

RICKY

No problem.

They shake hands. Curtis walks to the open window but stops and turns back around.

CURTIS

Before I forget I met this cute husky Sumatran tiger name Arachne. She's really cute. In fact I may ask her to marry me even though we just met.

RICKY

Well let me know when the wedding is.

CURTIS

I will.

He goes out the window.

Cut To

We are back at the cemetery with Ricky, Katie, and Clara walking out the gate.

KATIE

Hard to believe he came to ask for forgiveness.

CLARA

Sounds like he was a changed lion.

RICKY

He was. At least he and his new wife are in a better place.
