It's funny how DBZ Goku pulled some dumb moves and then this diverted in GT and Super, GT, he plays it smart, in Super....yeah that's another reason why I don't care for Super. XP

But yeah this scene doesn't happen in The Guardian-Verse. I STILL need to think out the Cell Saga in The Guardian-Verse but one of the reasons this scene doesn't happen is because Gohan isn't in the Cell Games, he's only a small child by this point. Yes, I have Gohan born at a different time in The Guardian-Verse than in canon.
