The year was 1993 — and it was the 30th Anniversary of both the Avengers and the X-Men. Two powerful Marvel superhero teams with a lot of connective tissue between them. Henry McCoy — the Bounding Beast! Formerly of the X-Men, then the Avengers, then The Defenders, then X-Factor…then back to the X-Men again (dudes definitely earned that “bounding” title, cuz he gets around). It was while a member of the Avengers that Hank met Government Agent (then official Unites States Liaison to the team) Henry Peter Gyrich…and annoyed the living hell out of him.⁣

Beast is not only a capable fighter, superhero and annoyer of Feds, he is one of the most brilliant scientists around. Perhaps even more brilliant than even Professor X himself. So as much as Gyrich hates Beast, he can’t say he wouldn’t be a boon for the mission. In fact, he expected McCoy might insist…because as it turns out, Beast’s estranged girlfriend, Trish Trilby, and international television journalist, is in country, reporting on the turmoil in Genosha. Oh, geez! Personal emotional stakes!⁣

As the Avengers have been banned from going to Genosha, Gyrich, accompanied by U.S. Agent, Beast and Professor X are the only U.S. group allowed in by the United Nation Peacekeeping forces.⁣

Little does the U.N., Nick Fury or Gyrich know that Xavier has other backup plans…⁣
