While Thanos is off on the other side of the universe being super emo about Death not being impressed with how he just killed half of all life in the Universe with the Infinity Gauntlet, Doctor Strange, Adam Warlock, the Silver Surfer and the remaining heroes of Earth begin to gather an attack force at Avengers HQ.
Having his entire team X-Factor wiped out by Thanos (a roster that was the original 5 X-Men: Ice-Man, Jean Grey, Archangel, Beast, and himself), mutant Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops showed up looking to get even. Having optic blasts that are powerful enough to level mountains adds some much needed firepower to this group. Luckily his girlfriend, Jean, dies like all the time, so he's a pro at this.
Joining an ad hoc, but powerful team of Avengers like Captain America, Iron-Man, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Quasar, Spider-Man, Thor, Namor, as well as heavy hitters like Firelord, Doctor Doom, Drax, Adam Warlock, Dr. Strange and the Silver Surfer, how could they fail?
