(OKAY: CW on this one due to sexual assault in the story I'm covering)So remember what we say here at Vector Vengers? Yes, that's right: "Comics Are Bonkers." And the story we are going to TRY to explain here is super, super bonkers.
Part 17:
Well, The West Coast Avengers helped out their cowboy buddies while stuck in the 19th Century. But they still had one problem: how to get back to 1985 with a time machine that only goes backwards. They decided to go back further and find other time travelers they already knew about who had also had past adventures. Figured they could help. Stupid idea, but okay.
As they began their jump however, one of the "good guy" Western heroes did something super crazy: he snatched Mockingbird off the time machine just as the other heroes vanished. Then he beat up Two-Gun Kid and Rawhide Kid and ran off with his kidnapped heroine. Holy geez.
Turns out, this guy. The Phantom Rider, was crazy. And awful. He drugged Mockingbird with a potion that made her love him, had her beat up the Kids again, and while under the influence of this drug, took advantage of her.
Wow. Like, I said...this shit got dark. This story seems to want to be a delightful romp in time, but suicide and sexual assault are things that just casually happen in it. Yikes.
Well, while the other heroes are in the past, Mockingbird comes to her senses, and during a fight with this creep. She allows him to fall to his death. Good riddance.
Avengers aren't supposed to kill, so this causes problems later. It's honestly a very creepy and problematic story. Cowboys kinda suck.
Okay the story gets brighter after this, I promise.....
