Description
The synthetic man known as The Vision hasn't had the easiest life. Created by a genocidal robot. His children ended up being figments of his unstable witch-wife's mind. The government erased his mind and disassembled his body and he became a pale, emotionless husk of what he once was. Which would make him super depressed....y'know, if he still had emotions.
But he kept being an Avenger. Kept plugging away. He also eventually found a scientist who helped the Vision build a new emotional matrix, as well as a hologram projector and a new "human" alter ego as Victor Shade. He may be a walking toaster, but he's still a good guy.
Unfortunately, he's not a good guy in every alternate reality. The Avengers had found themselves confronted a few times by a group of baddies called the Gatherers, lead by the mysterious Proctor. During one battle, Vision manages to capture one of them, namely The Swordsman, who is a dead ringer for the old Avenger named...um...well, also named Swordsman
Proctor, knowing the Avengers might be able to turn Swordsman over to their side (they did), enacts a secret plan. Luring Vision away from Avengers HQ, they ambush him and spirit him away to their secret lair. Once there they reveal *gasp* another Vision! But this one is EEEEVIL. This "Anti-Vision" has the classic red-hued skin and a similar green/yellow suit like the heroic Vision used to wear.
Using scifi nonsense to swap their minds, the Anti-Vision infiltrates the Avengers to spy on the team and lay in wait to strike.
But the good Vision sort of does the same with the Gatherers, in this new body (and, ya know...while in a scifi villain jail cell).
When the teams do final battle, Vision remains in this alternate reality body, as the Anti-Vision runs away with his old one. Seems like a lot of work to just make him red again, but hey, comics are weird.
