Kopa lost in the shadowlands, knowing that he can never come back
Sorry for the simpelness, I'm a real lazy ass if it comes to backgrounds XD
Here is my solution of what could have happened to Kopa why he should'nt be in the movie etc etc:
I always imagined Kopa being attacked by Zira not killed.(He is also my favourite TLK character, that's why XD) That he ran away from home because of a conflict with his father. He would have ran away too far from home right into the Shadowlands, where Zira was nearby. Zira would have attacked him and Kopa would have terrible bleeding scars. Kopa would have lied on the ground unconscious, and Zira would have thought he was death, but he is not
And when he awakens, thinking he can never come back, because he would think that his father would be still angry on him.That is what I think what should happen

personally, I tend to think Zira was framed. In the storyline I have planned, Zira was framed for killing Kopa by a psychopathic lioness named Merah, who threw Kopa off a cliff. It's not clear if Kopa died or what happened here happened with him, she just made sure he was gone and Zira was blamed. Merah hates Zira for "stealing" Scar from her (though Merah only wanted Scar for power, nothing else) and wanted to kill off Nala and any children she had then take her place as Simba's mate.

Intresting. In mine, I left it open as to rather or not he lived, because Merah swore to murder him outright if he ever showed his face again. Merah tried to repeat it with Kiara, but she escaped and Merah got banished for it.

I love the emotion here...and the blood too...alot of artists overuse blood (because they think it looks epic)
You just used what was neccesary 
The shading is also beautiful and really adds some extra emotion.
