Description
This is one of those "still in the progress of progressing" drawings. I had this nutty idea of a cross bow with limbs that went back real far and fired with so much snap and power that it could use a scope for the ranges it's capable of.Comes with an extendable field lense, foot hold for cranking, a single long spike for setting the crossbow down at a kneel, and eventually a crank for the string when i find a place for it.

hmmm, we could also have manufactured the shaft from a more flexible alloy that's available to Dwarves that would allow for more flexing and warping upon release.

which would work better if you had a standard shaft, not the spiral flute.
How about you make the Shaft itself from titanium (Lighter than steel, just as hard) And tip it with something heavier. Give a little point-heavy accuracy

probably would have to line the head much like a bullet, sorta of a metal jacket over lead, in a pierce point too (less drag).

Or a poison tip. If youre going for sniper action, you might as well be absolutely certain what you hit is going to stay dead
any of the metal poisons that take a while to kick would do well

Hey, poison! It should be a poison that shows some symptome that the sniper can see in order to verify the kill. Like hallucinations that cause thrashing about or incredible pain that will cause the victim to drop where he stood.

It's a plant in South America, The Japs had something similar, but when ground and mixed with tabac oil it made a poison that practically causes paralysis and death in mere seconds, it overloads the heart.

similar to Cyanide then. Cyanide causes paralytic seizures near-instantly. hard to coat on a metal though

the nice thing to this is, it's tricky to spot in a post mord analysis, since they don't check the lower left ventricle of the heart in an autopsy where, luckily, the poison gathers there.

I suppose, it depends on what ever language your brain is speaking, and the temperature of the grass on the fairway of a remote golf course in Colorado.

Worlds will fall in piece by piece, but destruction is primarily the domain of the whole.
One can destroy an army by shooting every single soldier. But one can also destroy a single soldier so gruesomely that the entire army falls back, no?

or maybe the leader?
point of fact being, we are creatures of our own nature. at times, that nature is cowardice. And in so many famous cases around the world, fear itself was the greatest weapon available. Jack the Ripper would have been caught if everybody wasnt terrified of him.
Although the second liuetenant idea is pretty good....

WolfofAztec In reply to gestern [2010-01-28 05:00:22 +0000 UTC]
Where does fear come into this? If you were stand in the boots of a dwarven officer watchin' the mountain line, you understand the neccesity of, say, a surgical strike on the enemy to lower moral. The weaponizing of fear is as old or even older than the sword, so I can't say there's any dishonor in using it since even men of great valor have resorted to it's methods. And any man in command worth is weight in salt always keeps his men in mind first, as such, Softening the enemy with a crossbow snipe spares more of your men a grizzly fate. That is if I understand where you're going with this.
