Description or "What do you mean by <>?!" xD

This is my - quite delayed - part of art trade with This time I decided to draw Meretar in his natural habitat again, but instead of just standing around and looking cool I tried to make a scene with him working on animunculi, made out of other dwarven automatons. I love the idea of him making one thing into another just to see if it works, how it works and... well, because he can. Ah, scientists. (I like him more and more the more I know about him xD)

It took me more time than usually, but I hope the final effect looks good, and that you like it))

I just adore this drawing. You gave tremendous atmosphere, I just see this quiet morning, twilight in the laboratory and cold rays of the morning sun, wade through the shutters. I damn love the subtle mechanical fingers of the centurion. And Meretar looks so passionate at work.
I'm...   I can't find words, when I look at your drawings! All of them are so alive. So freaking beautiful!

Woodsie-One In reply to AffectiveDisorder [2014-10-20 10:14:53 +0000 UTC]

Awww, thank you so much :'D
I'm trying to put more atmosphere and life into my drawings by light and composition, since they still look rather unnatural and stiff to me, but I guess it's rather a problem with anathomy and understanding that living body is not a mannequin. That's what I adore in your drawings - how natural the characters look. I'm still trying to learn that.
But I'm so happy to hear these kind words, thank you again, for all your kind comments - they always brighten my day up))

You definitely did a great job with this,  it is noticeable to the naked eye! The environment looks even more natural and beautiful. I just didn't get how to draw the environment...)
You still have a lot to learn, but ... I must admit I hope that you will keep this amazing style. This is much more beautiful than the work performed in a technically correct.

Woodsie-One In reply to AffectiveDisorder [2014-11-22 18:33:49 +0000 UTC]

Environment IS a hard part. I still don't get perspective, so I try to avoid using it. And putting a character into perspective is a whole new level of hell. xD
Thank you) I'm trying to learn as much as I can (and since I am incredibly lazy, it still isn't much in comparison to what I could learn if I worked harder instead of playing games and watching funny cats on youtube.) - both in the technically/anatomically correct way, and the one heavily-stylized. I never really post the realistic drawings though - I tend to see them more as an exercise, than something worth showing. Still, it is good both to have one's unique style, and to know how to draw correctly - these things tend to cross with each other a lot. It is easier to draw stylized human, when you know how to draw a normal one.
It took me years to accept it, though. I was really, really stubborn.

I agree. You should know at least the basics of anatomy to draw well. But honestly, I dislike too realistic style - and the closer to the realism, the less I'm interested.

/exited noises/
oh my
Thank you! I love it, it looks so awesome!**
Meretar's little smartass smile here is just precious Also I like how his hair are a bit tousled, which is very accurate - most of the time, especially when he works, they do look like a mess))
You did a really good job with the enviroment - the red curtains add a very nice contrast to all the yellows and greens in the drawing and I like how "framed" the composition is with these objects on the corners) And the lighting is just great!
I feel a bit sorry for this animunculi guy tho, its face looks so doomed, poor thing : D
Thank you again for the trade, seeing this made my day so much better!

Woodsie-One In reply to Fernmir [2014-10-18 20:23:46 +0000 UTC]

Awww, I'm so glad you like it! : D
I love how he always has this calm smile on his face, it suits him as a mage and an Altmer))
His hair was something I was pretty worried about - I sketched it roughly in the beginning, when I was picking colours and fixing the base with reference, and then I was just drawing, only to look at the reference again when doing face. I looked, and realised that the hair didn't really look like I did it, but there were so many layers with light in this area already that I decided not to fix it. So I'm really happy that it turned out well))
I don't usually make interior scenes, or when I make them, I just pretend that there actually isn't anything there, except for the character, so it was quite challenging and gave me a lot of fun at the same time. That's one of the reasons I like art trades - they are somehow pushing me to cross the borders of my drawing comfort zone. And that's a great thing ^^
Thank you too for the trade, it was amazing and fun to do! I hope that you'll like to do another one somewhere in the future - sooner or later, whatever suits you))
(And one question... would you mind if I used your part as Yakone's profile/character ID image for rpg blog? With all the credit of course.)

Oh, don't worry about his hair)) he certainly doesn't
And I agree about trades, they always motivate me to put more effort into drawings than I usually do) I also just really enjoy them in general)
But I think maybe this time you should choose when we do another one, I'm actually always up for the trade) I'm not very busy with college this year(probably will be busy only during exams in december and in june-july), so just let me know when you'd like to do it again, I'll be glad :з
(Sure, I don't mind at all!)

Woodsie-One In reply to Fernmir [2014-10-19 15:42:59 +0000 UTC]

Sure! I tend to be really awkwardly shy about such things, with a feeling that maybe I am annoying others, maybe they are busy, or maybe *some really socially paranoid stuff*, but you're so nice and all, that it's much easier to just randomly message you. So, I definitely will send you a note with a proposition of next trade. (I guess it will be when I'll manage to pick up pieces of what's left of my general organization, which I'm trying to do right now. It's quite confusing when suddenly my weekend got moved two days earlier and got replaced with graphic studies, but only every two weeks, while during other ones I have more weekend than actual lectures on my full-time studies xD) And I'm really glad you're eager for it))
